Hi - I know you say you have nothing to sell but are you sure?? Do you have any gold, any electricals etc that you could take to cash converters?

If you have a friend or family willing to lend you the money they can go to their local police station and give it to the desk officer who will phone your local station and your desk officer will give you the same amount from their petty cash. I know this because a mate was stranded penniless 200 miles away from home and his mum had to do it!

Housing Allowance should help with your rent (its the same as housing benefit but for those renting privately) you must apply for this and Council Tax benefit as soon as possible as there are rules about how long they can backdate this for. even if you get a job in a couple of weeks you may still be entitled to some help. But I do agree about getting to cab (do you have a bicycle if it's too far to walk)

Really hope you get sorted out soon. x

Your nearest one is in Paisley then. I know it's a fair walk but it is doable if you can't borrow the bus fare. I'd give you a lift if I was closer. :(

Recently on TV there was a prog about a vicar who tried to live without money. In one episode he walked over 100 miles to see someone for advice. As you have a computer with internet connection but no phone, friends, job or money you might like to watch it for inspiration to walk to the CAB. People seemed OK about giving him food outside supermarkets.

    It is available online here:

On the bright side, at least your OH has a job and people here are trying to help but I think most people have offered all the ideas possible except for actually offering you some money.

Yes only 3 miles from Renfrew - about an hour's walk

I don't really have much to add other than, don't feel stupid posting ever. We've all done it and anyone looking down on you can haddaway and *ahem*!

Sit down and take a deep breath, you're still okay which is good and you just need to look objectively at your options and try to search for silver linings which is nigh on impossible but you know, it'll stop you from going crackers.

As mentioned before , check exactly what you're entitled to. Maybe even speak to a sympathetic Jobcentre employee (They do exist, I promise, though few and fair between) next time you're there to see if you have any other options. If you get to a CAB, definately have a word with them.

Have a nose round the other posts from people who have found themselves in the same position, there's a wealth of knowledge about.

I wish you the very, very best of luck and thinking of you in this struggle, not worth much but you know, better than a kick in the teeth!

Another idea, any allotments nearby? Perhaps you could offer to help out with weeding etc in return for some veg and maybe even eggs if someone there has chickens.
