hi there

I am a dad to be and live seperate from my long time girlfriend. she attends college full time and claims income support with housing benefit .

Now we are thinking of moving in together and need to know what benefits we eligable and how it will affect her benefits that she claims.

Will my £25,000 a year job be over the threshold or will we be able to claim childtax and working tax credits.

Sorry if this seems a little jumbled

Regards

Kwl

She'll lose her income support and her housing benefit. You'll get child tax credits.

She'll lose her income support, as she won't be a single parent (she already has a child as she is claiming income support?) She'll also lose her housing benefit (depending on the LA you live in and the rent subsidies available). But, in return, you will have only one home to run, one set of utilities, cheaper groceries by shopping for family rather than individuals, and.....you will be with your girlfriend and your child.
A little to lose, alot to gain :)

Because she attends college full-time, you can get the 25% single person council tax discount.

    hi

She dosent have a child already, she claims income support because she is at college full time. How much will we be eligable for in tax credits and does that include working tax credits. and how is she suppose to support herself if they stop her income support.

You will be supporting her when they stop her income support.

You will be treated as a couple for benefit purposes (as you are a couple) and your income will mean she will not be entitled to IS.

Congrats on moving in together, it's such a shame you're putting a strong emphasis on what you can claim rather than on what you can EARN as a couple.

You will be entitled to at least CTC for the time being, however, the new government will soon be looking to lower the threshold for claiming so I doubt you'll have these for much longer so don't try and rely on them too much.
Be happy, it's the greatest wealth :)

Hi, as the others have said she would have to sign of income support and housing and council tax benefit will then stop. If your over 25 you could be able to claim working taxcredit. When baby is born you will get working and child taxcredit and child benefit. Theres a calulator on taxcredit website which will tell you what your entitled to
