It has clearly rained up here in the Midlands as the water butts are full. I got home at 10 last night and watered the tomatoes. I have five that will be ready to eat this week-end. Sad excited dance here. Off to start work so that I can get it all finished early.

Nipping in to update. The new job is possibly back on the horizon I should hear this week. Two more weeks at the old job. I have found someone to come and do the work on my flat so that it can be rented out which will be a good job done. Next step is to sort out a removal company to take the remains of my London life ooop north so that the builder can get in to do the work. I have been tidying over every day but I haven't calculated how much extra that has been this month I will report back later. I really need to know if I have a job or not to make my proper plans.

Old job have given me another month of work. Builders move into the flat in two weeks time. I am still saving so as to cover any time I am not working plus moving and work on the flat. I feel very unsettled and I am not getting things sorted out as fast as I had hoped but I guess that is because I have really changed my life plan. So apart from the beginning of the month, no overpayments but sort of getting on with things.

I now have a week off work and I must use this week to pack up all that remains at the flat and get it moved out plus start sorting out end dates for gas, elec, phone etc. All of which sounds good but the truth is I am on my second coffee, in bed reading diaries! Off to buy boxes and then I can really motor.

Ha ha, found your cheeky thread! * makes note to subscribe properly so I don't lose it again *

Sorry you're feeling unsettled too, Toots ... something seasonal, like you said on my thread or easily the fact that everything's so up in the air for you?

Did you get the go ahead for the LA job? Does it work alongside the extra month your old place have given you? Easy to take on too much when you're trying to save for when the work dries up, but don't neglect taking care of you in amongst it all as it sounds like you have more than enough to deal with even without work!

Have you managed to successfully move everything oop north yet? Any news on lodger or student front?

Have a happy weekend, even if it means retreating to the sewing room with a flask of coffee for a bit of well-earned you time!

Pay has gone in so I have moved £1k to the savings for the builders. I have three more weeks at the old job then one week to get ready for the new job and to finally move out of my flat. I am looking forward to getting back on track, living in one place and getting back to overpaying on my mortgage.

Nice to see you HBBBO I am feeing very unsettled, too much is up in the air and the summer is nearly over! My LA job is supposedly back but I don't have anything official yet so who knows. I am pretty calm about it ke sera etc. I am more confident now that I will get consultancy so I will go for that if the job falls through.

I am in London and just need to do the final packing and clean before the builders and painters and decorators arrive. TODAY IS THE DAY, and then I move in with a friend from next Friday so the work can be done here.

I did well yesterday and scrubbed the flat throughout, a job I am relieved to have done. I have packed up 20 boxes but will need at least another ten which I ordered on-line and should be delivered tomorrow. I have also got 100s of books to be collected by the BHF people for their charity shop, I will definitely add in a pile of kitchen stuff too. Back to work this morning, 15 days to go in this job. It had better be warm as I have just realised I don't have any form of coat or jacket here in London. I am well over two place living and am looking forward to being in one place for the winter. Tonight I need to create a strict budget for this month so I can pay off all of the builders, decorators and all the certificating required to rent the flat out properly.

Hiya GreenT good to see you.

I am working at home for the next two days to break the back of a big project. I've moved another £500 over to savings ready for the big bills. My potential tenants have said definitely yes and they want the flat unfurnished - great. I also have an extra week at the old job which will pay my removal costs so I have said yes to that. This also means professional removers as I will finish work on Friday and start the new one on the following Monday having moved everything up on the Saturday. My new job is £25k p.a less than the old one but some is off set by rent and the rest by not running two homes. I have also applied to take a PhD student lodger from the local university, I hope that works out as it will be a huge help.

My next real mortgage effort is going to be on my house. The mortgage is in two parts: one of £40k, the other of £138k. My plan from October is to pay down the £40k with the aim of it being gone in the 18 months of my new contract. If I manage this my pension lump sum will match the £138k and I can then pay it down with no interest which will really help. I am leaving my 2nd rental flat mortgage untouched as my likely action with that one is to sell it in ten years time which will give me a decent amount of savings for the future.
