June 2010, 80 payments to go............

I have just realised that I have 80 payments left on my mortgage and unless I get a wiggle on there isn't a hope of early retirement. So here's hoping I manage to post fairly regularly, and get the blooming mortgage paid down as well. I am aiming for it to be paid off in sixty payments, so May 2015 rather than January 2017. I am going to write down what I spend every day for a month and see where the money REALLY goes.
I live in London during the week and have a cottage in North Notts for the week-end so I choose a pretty expensive lifestyle. This month I'm travelling up to Newark twice, and have a big do at work to buy an outfit for so let's see how that works out (I need to find nice navy blue smart trousers).
Today I have £50 in my purse, £60 in my pound coin stash, and $11 to be changed into English. I have to buy my travel pass, £25.80, and some milk but other than that there should be no spends needed until Friday. Let's see how that goes.

The small steps that are quite painless can make a huge difference. Welcome and good luck with your challenge.0

Today I have spent £92.80 on my train pass and £2.00 on a coffee. £5 left in my purse. £45 in the cupboard aiming to last for 9 days without going to the cashpoint.0

Good luck with lasting 9 days before the next cashpoint visit. :A

Thanks QB, I am a cashpointaholic so it's really unusual for me not to be there twice a week, and I'm only on day 2.
Still n all today I have spent £2.00 coffee, 98 pence sending a parcel and £7.92 on shopping (milk, lettuce, tomatoes, ham). However the parcel is a book sold on Amazon so will be money back soon. And I turned my $19 back into £12,34.
But I realised an odd thing today I feel really uncomfortable if I don't leave the house with at least £10.00 in my purse. I haven't really got this not spending lark cracked.0 -
Hi toot
Good luck with your no cashpoint challenge!
Is your £2 coffee a special coffee? I've become addicted to my thermostBut I realised an odd thing today I feel really uncomfortable if I don't leave the house with at least £10.00 in my purse. I haven't really got this not spending lark cracked.
lol - I'm completely the opposite! DH is always complaining cause I never have any cash on me (I'm addicted to my cards) so I'm trying to learn to spend only what I have in my purse and not on my cardsCurrently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck

Hiya SmiSave, would that I managed never to have my own money, as a sad single there no-one to dob off! My coffee is a skinny latte from Cafe Nero and I need it like a smoker needs cigs. It really annoys me if I don't get one in the morning on the way to work.
Today I have spent £2.00 on coffee AND I managed to just put a £5 in my purse rather than a tenner, go me. A good spending day. I am eating my way through the freezer and I may get to the end of the cashpoint challenge without doing a major shop as well. I do have a bit of a problem with supermarket bargains and it is quite freeing to eat the stuff rather than just keep adding to it.
Paid off the mortgage today an extra £50 from Quidco.0 -
And today I've spent £2 on coffee, £8,37 on shopping and £22 on a taxi to the station, not brilliant.0

£8.40 plant, £7.80 fruit.£45.90 Waitrose, largely Prosecco and Badoit, and I took £75. oo out of the cashpoint. I think that is classed as everything wents XXXX up. So I start again!0

OK, now I'm on week two and starting afresh, really there's no wonder the mortgage doesn't go down as fast as it should I have no spending off button.
Today I have spent NOTHING, I had to give myself a good talking to as I nearly went out and bought two zips and some bias binding which I think I will have in a cupboard in London. So one dress finished, except for the zip and hem, a second dress cut out. And a rag doll I've been making for weeks is finished at last. An enjoyable day, a productive day and at last one where I haven't spent money. I should make this week without any large spends, fingers and toes well and truly crossed.0 -
Forgot my rail ticket at a mere £54.00. In week 1 of the great mortgage pay off I have spent £256.17 and overpaid £50 on the mortgage. The first week of the month is bound to be the most expensive because of my monthly train pass BUT £256.17 is pretty shocking MORE EFFORT REQUIRED. I have £312 left for the rest of the moth with all bills paid, should be doable.0
