Coffee £2, drinks in the pub £10.15. £62 and a few coppers left in my purse. So after tomorrow the £ coins will be back in the kitchen drawer and being added to for the last week of July (last week goes free, sort of).

Rabbits, pinching, punching etc. Now that's over here's to a new month. I have a refund from British Gas for £461. plus £91 expenses from work and £30 from Quidco. I have made an extra payment to the mortgage of £500 this morning. The remaining funds will pay for my trip to N Ireland. Jolly good. Slight variation to plan: I am carrying on spending from the pound coin stash for my day to day spending and when it runs out I will go to the cashpoint and draw £30.00 per week for spends and treats to see how that goes. I need to reduce my total debt by £2k per month to meet my targets. With my normal mortgage payment and the extra £500 I have paid off £1000, half way there with the £1000 needing to go to the credit card. I still have my holiday in France to pay for but I will sort that out this week.

Tonight I am adding up and analysing last months savings in the hopes that it will reassure me that I have plenty of money if used wisely. I will carry on recording my spending in the hopes it will make me more aware as I am officially TRYING TO SPEND differently this month. Note not less spending just more effective spending.

OK enough of the heat I need to sleep! Drinks in the pub £10.25. I will have a proper look at the figures this week-end when things are less busy. Also BIG NEWS no coffee yesterday morning it was too hot.

Just paid an extra £300 off the mortgage in the first of what may be a theoretical payment each week (like payment a day but different). I have a target for money in the bank at the end of each week and if it is over that amount it will be paid off the mortgage. I have to find another £700 this month to make my overall target. I only have £700 in my current account so this will be interesting.

Overlocker £113, clothes and Christmas presents £124, night on the pub £12.87. I also paid the gardner £80, and today will pay my niece for cleaning £25. I also need milk.

Small bits of shopping £10.18. Coffee £2. I went to buy an Ipad, they were sold out - GOOD. Paid for the ferry to France £380. I will get 2/3 back. Absolutely knackered hopefully it will be a bit cooler tonight so I will get some sleep. Lovely week-end: gardening, spending time with friends, chatting to my niece it was very relaxing. Have a strong urge to make a mortgage payment but I need to wait until Friday, my payment a week day, with a bit of control I should be able to pay £80.

Tough times at work as it is for everyone in the public sector, very scary to imagine being made to retire early, I must pay off as much as I can over the next six months after which I'll know one way or the other.

It has only taken me thirty years of working in London to do this but yesterday I bought an annual Travelcard for £1032 which work will give me an interest free loan for once I find the right form to fill in. Over a year this will save me at least £200, when there is to be no pay rise everything I should do becomes more apparent. £30 into my account from Quidco and I am eagerly awaiting £91 in expenses. I have just over £200 for the rest of the month. £70 per week folks, we will see. I am determined to make a payment per week and this week it will be the £30 from Quidco.
