London property prices are pretty crazy.

Mr Goldie grew up in Battersea, and at some point in the 1970's his parents were offered the chance to buy their rented flat for a couple of thousand. Last time I looked, which was a year or so ago, similar flats were upwards of £500,000. I dread to think what they cost now.

They declined the chance to purchase, so there was no big inheritance!

Hope you meeting went ok today

Hope the meeting went well Toots and that the job is now signed and sealed for you.

Sorry to hear about those possible damp costs ... will buildings insurance be claimable at all? Good to have the silver lining of the request to purchase BTL though ... let's hope the accountant's advice is good and that the couple can afford the new price!

There's always something happening over here! You must feel like you're meeting yourself coming back sometimes! Good luck with it all! x

  • Morning GreenT and HBBBO, really good to see you.

I have a job, hoo bloomimg ray. My first day will be 6 October and I am starting on 4 days a week for six months and hoping to then go down to three days a week.

My second set of quotes for the building work are in and they are also pretty big. The structural engineer is coming round on Friday which will give me an independent view. Unfortunately this is wear and tear I think so won't be covered by insurance. A friend "helpfully" described others having to have their house underpinned and rebuilt from the cellar up the killer being "yours is really like theirs and at the top of a hill too". Honestly why would anyone say such a thing when I have said how worried I am?

I am meeting friends this week-end and going to Holy Island and the gardens at Alnwick. We may be super lucky with the weather. I do hope so.

All go here HBBBO I am moving everything except a bed, plate, mug and kettle out of here next Tuesday, the flat looks like the beginning of a jumble sale.

Congratulations on the new job from a lurker:)

We were at Alnwick gardens in July (it's only an hour from us) and had a picnic in front of the cascade/fountain. I haven't been to holy island in years though. Enjoy your trip!

Just to say glad the job news is good ... let's hope the surveyor can put your mind at rest a bit too, fingers crossed that it's something minor and a relatively inexpensive "easy" fix. x

I have just had the most wonderful week end seeing the gardens at Alnwick and then going to the beach at bamburgh where it was warm and sunny and there was no wind. Just beautiful, quick nip to holy island for a drink then home.

The surveyor came on Friday I am waiting for his report. Just off to check up with builders/decorators at the flat. I have four more days at this job.

Enjoy the last four days countdown :)
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!
  • With two days left I have finished the report needed to sign off this job. I have a presentation on Thursday morning then that is it. Unless the presentation is a disaster there will be few ammends and I can finish on thursday evening which would be great. Builder and decorator have finished in the flat it looks really good. Just need to ebay the remaining furniture or maybe Facebook it??? And then it is full on with the house. I am in the middle of massive list creating for everything I need to do. It is a lot of admin. No more payments this month but they begin again in earnest with my envelope challenge on 1 October.

Phew ... It does sound like a big list is going to be needed!

Well done with getting the report out of the way and best of luck with the presentation.

I've started trying to fill my envelopes ... I have a cheeky £1 coin in about 19 of them so far, so October's definitely going to be thrifty. still loving the idea though, so thank you for that! :T
