Starting to know the new train timetable etc which is good although I am missing the London buses - so frequent and 24 hours etc. My new colleagues are nice though understandably wary. The envelope system is really working for me and I have taken in lunch and that seems easier to sort out and organise now I am just in one place, like a child I am very enthusiastic about my new lunch box! I have put on the heating this morning for an hour as for the first time it feels cold rather than just a bit chilly. I am hoping to get to the end of the week with no unexpected cash point visits plus a bit of an overpayment from my unspent envelope money.

Taking my Mum clothes shopping this morning, I must walk away from any buying for myself.........I hve put all my left over envelope money in my purse so I do have a bit of spends. Once we are halfway through the moth I will have more idea about whether I can make an extra mortgage payment. Mind as I still don't have any form of contract I am not too sure when I will get paid.

Sounds like early success where the envelopes are concerned ... and get you with all those no spend days! Sounds like you're doing brilliantly Toots!

A 'movement check' sounds a bit worrying and expensive in equal measures ... you sound very calm about it all, so I hope it all turns out well.

That new job / new colleagues / where's my contract period is always a little fraught, glad you have the delights of a new lunch box to see you through (:) it made me smile because I'm the same over these things myself)!

Happy weekend to you Toots, sounds like you've earned it!

Hello HBBBO yes well I really don't think my house is moving as there are not big cracks all over the place. But this is ex-mining country so the house will almost certainly be under-mined, we shall see.

I am still unpacking boxes and my house is akin to an episode of hoarders with a route through the living room and dining room to the kitchen. My theory of today has been to unpack all of the remaining boxes and work through the contents ensuring everything is saved, charity shop or car boot. In fact whilst it is chaos at present I am happy to be rid of the huge pile of boxes, all unlabelled and anonymous so this next lot of packing up will at least have an obvious purpose. No spending day today as I haven't left the house and I expect tomorrow will be the same as I really must get straight.

Good luck with the box sorting. Had to smile at the lunch box - I too would be excited by a new lunch box :)
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

It's a bit undertaking you have got there, but you are making good progress

Once you have got everything done you'll have a real sense of satisfaction of a job well done. But it can be a bit chaotic on the journey!

Very envious of you actually having windows open and air coming through ... windows firmly closed here as bally miserable wet and windy day! But fire lit so warm and snugly inside.

Hope you and shiny new lunch box have a slightly more "at ease" time at work with new colleagues next week. x

OK so I am delurking here cos I am concerned that you are going to pay more tax than you need. I was interested in your title & so I read (all 44 pages). This is just to say I did not read page 1 and then skip to the end. I just wanted to be sure I have got this right. You own outright a flat you are about to rent, and own another with a mortgage and the house which is your home which also has a mortgage.

It is my belief that your accountant should be advising you to move as much of the mortgage on your house as you can to the the rental properties.

The reason for this is that any interest you are paying on THOSE mortgages are tax deductable (against the rent). So please check this out. Also landlord fees etc etc. Whilst I am a great believer in paying all the tax that you are due there is absolutely no point in paying tax that is not due.
