  • Well done on the 25 mins Trying was it a lot harder than the 20 mins from week 5 ?

Well Week 6 started and run 1 seemed almost easy after the 20 min end of week 5 :rotfl: Managed to push myself on the 2nd 5 mins to go a bit faster I know that is what she says not to do but I wanted to push myself and see what happened (get very out of breath and beetroot faced :rotfl:) but it felt good.

Hope you get out today as well crumblepie

betty - I'm jealous you have the sea as a view.... don't worry what other people think or what you think other people might think. I had the 'what if people see me' problem and then I thought I don't care what people think I'm doing it for myself. Smile, say hello...

trying - well done on the 25 minutes!:T

I went for a walk instead of a run as I'm trying to find a nice route that's 5k. The path I run on is 4k so I'm a little bit short unless I do a U turn in the middle. Hoping to do a run tomorrow as long as the weather is nice.

My route is 4k as well, but i'm slow at the mo. will have to work out a new route when I get a bit faster. hope the weather holds out for you.

I have stopped caring what other people think, just keeping my head down. saw a few other joggers today and gave a little grin :D hehe!

The sea is lovely, I would never have done this if I was still living in london, the seaside is like a magnet drawing me out of the house!

    wk 2 run 2 done! :D

Now, I have a little problem in that my shins have started really hurting! they are fine for the warm up and during the jogging, but during the walking parts in between they really really hurt :( like they are being stretched. Is this normal?? will this stop eventually????

BettyB, you may want to look at getting fitted for shoes, i think that's usually the reason shins start to hurt :( In the meantime, I usually used to do stretches to minimise the pain. Am jealous of your by the sea running - although London is getting prettier with all the cherry blossom trees blooming!

Everyone has been doing super well and I haven't run since last Saturday :( it does seem like a long time ago, so much has happened in my life, it's seems like such a long week!

Think I will have the weekend to relax and start again next week, still on week 6, it's going to take me 3 weeks at this pace ;) I need new earphones too! Am thinking on getting some of the running ones, but don't know how good they are. I am getting sick of them falling out tho! :)

Well done to TRH, I'm a bit worried about the 25 but I guess I've done the 20, so just slow down and get through it!

Alliwantistosave, great work on the 20mins! I almost burst into tears when I had finished it, I was so proud of myself! :)

I'm doing the RFL too - my housemate and I signed up super early for motivation - I'm number 22!!!

Good luck to everyone over the weekend

I second what sarsief says about the shoes. I bought some trainers last year and after 5 minutes or so my legs and shins would hurt but thought I'm unfit, that's what happens. Then i gave up running it hurt too much. Bought new trainers this year and I've had no problems at all. I didn't spend loads of money on them - I went to TKmaxx and managed to get a pair there for £25. I think they are men's shoes but my feet are quite wide and they are very very comfy to wear.

Attempted a run but didn't do too well. Tried having music to pace myself and it went wrong, so I walked instead to find a 5k route. If I walk down to the river(warm up) run along the river, walk up the hill (half time breather!) then do the usual route back it's 5.5k, which is near enough for me to try at the weekend.

I dread this too. Although, I think of the calories I'm burning too. :D

Wednesday and tonight were body attack so I'll be running tomorrow and Sunday. If its nice on Sunday I might go for a run in the park as its been about 8 months since I've run outside. Other half has some course he's studying so it might encourage him to do it if I leave the house. Or he may just play on the PC. Hmmm, which is more likely? :rotfl:

I did go and buy some amazing headphones. Walked all the way home and did not adjust them once (except to wonder why they weren't falling out). A run tomorrow will test them properly I feel.
How long til pay day?

The past 5 runs I've done have been 25 minutes. I don't know if other people have experienced it but about half way through I settle into my pace and feel like I could go on for hours.. that would be insane though:rotfl:

so this morning I set my alarm for really early....got up..out the door and did 5k in 32minutes!! I am knackered, my face is still beetroot, but I'm proud of myself. Decided to run down hill and back along the river which was really nice.

I'm using Skullcandy smoking buds headphones and find they stay in my ears really well. I know they are not cheap but come with 3 sizes of bud things as you can get a better fit but I have had mine over 2 yrs and they get quite alot of use.
Glad I'm not the only one who get's emotional when you finish a good run :o

thanks for the advice about shoes. I'm not sure if that is the reason for my shins hurting - I bought new adidas running trainers recently (my first 'proper' sports trainers with decent support!)

I did some research and apparently shin strain / shin splints are common if you do too much too soon, so I have had a few extra days rest and will see how I go tomorrow. there are also some specific stretches you can do to warm up your shin muscles!

With regards to earphones, I have the soft type that have a little clip that goes round the back of your ear - like these:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-Slim-Clip-Earphone-Black/dp/B002GAXWF2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1303123227&sr=8-1

I had to get them as I can't wear in-ear earphones cos of my tragus piercing.
