    Hi (again)

    Yes Ivm, I am.
Having comforted eaten my way out of a horrid relationship and the following 2 year recovery, I've finally hit the heaviest I have ever been and also the unfittest, to the point where there is no way I am going to the gym ( that I am still paying 40 a month for lol) .
Tried road running but in all honesty, I hated it. Far too self conscious, stopping every time there was a car near by, and the roads where I am are back roads, tiny, and the cars tank along at stupid speeds.. just not safe with my level of fitness and co-ordination.
Have signed myself up to do the race for life ( and I shall prob need 'the kiss of', at the end) ... treadmill arrived today, so I shall be starting the programme later this evening.
Already have a really good pair of trainers that I got when I tried the road running.
Have 999 / oxygen supplies on speed dial.

    :eek::eek:

I know I am going to need a lot of support and advice and guidance along the way.
Although I have a friend who is a 'proper runner' and is very excited about my new venture, her suggestion of ' lets pop out for a short 3 miler together' ( !!!!!!!!) made me realise that she is perhaps a bit over excited and a bit too advanced for me, unless she is actually trying to kill me. .... its a possibility.

    First effort tonight

    Wish me luck lol

    Good Luck!!!

Very jealous you have a treadmill. That would have probably been my option instead of a gym but I'm in a first floor flat and don't think the downstairs neighbours would be too happy with me!
  • Lol I can imagine ... Mind you , I would trade the treadmill in for the confidence to get out there and do it in public .

So, I've managed to hit 3.2km in the 30 min runs (the 2 * 8 mins this week).

I only did a 2 min warm up walk and a 3 min gap so had 9 mins at the end and I'd decided to try 1 minute runs at 10km/h thinking I could do with 1 min walks til the end. Well - I managed 30 seconds!! Think I'll just stick with my 6.7km/h!

On the plus side, average 5km time would be just under 47 minutes now! Can't wait to hit the 45 then 40 minute mark!!
  • Wow ...... this place is quiet

Just wanted to share that I have managed to complete the dreaded 20 mins of week 5 run 3 last night and I am still smiling today :D

when I tried last time a year ago I could not crack it but last night managed to do it on my first attempt, just to prove it is a mental rather than a physical challenge as last year I was 21LB lighter and a lot fitter. But I am using the C25K to try to get my fitness back and so far it seems to be doing the job.

Hope everyone is doing ok x
    Restarting C25K in 2014 - Week 8 - 1/3 completed

Need to loose 25lb / 3lb lost so far :(

Well done . It feels great doesn't it. I've not been running outside much over the winter but still doing 30 minutes on the treadmill 2 or 3 times a week. Need to motivate myself to get back outside now that it's not so cold. I aim to be doing 10k regularly by the end of this year.

    Well done!

Think it's going to take a while for me to get there - I'm struggling with the two 10 min runs. I managed one of them then could only do 5 mins followed by a 1 min walk and 1 min run. Think I might do another week or two of the 8 minute runs as I don't feel I really go through that as well as I could have.

Can't wait to be on the 20 min runs though!

Hi all, looking for a little advice. I completed the C25K last year and run 5k in about 31 mins. I do this 5/6 times a week. Am looking at doing the Race for Life but at 10k (need a challenge ;) ) so what is the best way to train for it?

Ooh good luck for that! I'm doing my first 10K this year, the Lincoln 10. Can't wait!

tbh though I've only run 10k once so far but I'd been doing 1 long, slow run a week for a few weeks that lasted between 4.5-5.5 miles.

Increase your distance by 10% every week. Don't push yourself too far, too soon. Take it steady, even if it feels like you'd walk faster! I'm like that and I get too tempted to go a bit faster but then i don't have the puff to finish.

If you ever struggle with your breathing try a 1,2,3,4 pattern. Inhale to the count of 4 and exhale doing the same. This has helped me massively. I've also stopped listening to music so I can concentrate on my breathing more and I can feel a world of difference for it.
