Couch to 5k Running - Part Three

I feel like I run far too slowly too lvm, I always have really. I thought I'd concentrate on getting up to being able to do the 30 minutes, then now I can I'm trying to work on getting faster. Seeing as I could have gone for longer maybe I could have gone a little bit faster, but I didn't want to try to go too fast to begin with and end up having to stop before getting up to 5km, and feel like I'd failed.0

Today I went out for my first run of the year (and also my first for a few months, been meaning to do it for ages now
). Went for just under 2 miles in 30 mins (avg pace 16.22 min/mile) which I know is lousy
but I did spend 7 minutes of that walking to start running, lol.
I know the stats aren't great but I am pleased with myself for having finally gone outNeed now to work towards running a full 5km, then 10km (I am going to be doing a 10km run in June). If I can't run 10km by June there isn't much hope for me :rotfl:

I wouldn't be so disheartened with the 16.22 min/miles. My best while doing C25K is 15.57 at the moment.
Wish I was ready to be thinking about doing a 5K, let alone a 10K. Good luck!
Was quite chuffed with my treadmill workout today as I managed the official Week 3 of C25K.
My plan for next week is meant to be run 2, walk 2, run 4, walk 4 (X2) but I'm thinking I may be able to do Week 4 of C25K (run 3, walk 1.5, run 5, walk 2.5). Will see how the rest of this week goes first.
I'm sooo surprised (and happy!) about how I'm feeling now. Although it's still challenging, there's no way I could've run for 3 minutes at the start of this - I could do 1 minute but with more difficulty that I'm having with 3 minutes now.
And I'm still managed to do this without telling anyone. I know it's not exactly something to be ashamed of but I'd rather no-one else had any expectations apart from me! Think people are wondering why I go to the same shopping centre (where the gym is) every single day and never buy anything!!0 -
Things have certainly quietened around here!
I'm just back from the gym and happy to say I managed to do W4R1. Well, I changed it a bit and did the two 5 minute runs then the two 3 minute runs instead of alternating. I reckon that's allowed :-)
Anyway, so pleased with it and I didn't feel like it was that difficult.
I've been logging my heart rate since I've been doing this and my average heart rate today was 157 - the exact same as it was on 12th January when all I did was WALK 30 minutes. It's so good to see the improvement in fitness.
Anyway, I'm quite confident about this week and the W5R1 next week but not entirely sure about the W5R2 and certainly not W5R3. The plan I devised myself had me doing a week of each type of run but I'd love if I could get to W5R2 next week.
After all this is done, I'll definitely need to devise some other plan to get my speed up - at the moment I reckon it would take around 45 mins+ to do 5k. Not sure whether I should keep doing intervals for 30 mins, do 5km and aim to increase speed or start a 10k programme in the hope it would build up stamina for 5k. Probably got another 6-8 weeks before I need to worry about that though!
Hope everyone else is doing well!0 -
I would like to start...i'm a couch potato that would like to be a jogging potato!! I see you all post things like I'm week one- run number five.... Where do I find these, to know how to start? Thanks0

checking in - still running, trying to get out 3 times a week. On week 2 of the 5 - 10k plan which is 4 reps of 12 mins with 1 min walking in between.
SO much fun, but horrendously time consuming to get it all done and showered before leaving for work at 7:15! Wish I had motivation to go out after work...0 -

WOW - 48 minutes of running! Very jealous. I'm nervous about attempting the 2 * 8 mins next week!0 -

Hello Wooden Spoon, get stuck in! And hello to everyone else.
I'm not going to be running for a few days. I'm still having trouble with wanting to go out and I wasn't feeling it last night, so in the end I decided to do an exercise DVD in the house again instead. I've done it before lots of times and everything was fine, but halfway through suddenly my ankle went from under me with a crack and I fell over!
It's ok, I can walk on it ok, but there's a bit of swelling and it still hurts slightly so I'm giving the exercise a rest until it's all better. Should have just gone out running, then I'd have been alright!
It didn't help I had to comfort myself with tea and biscuits either, I'm not going to keep weight off at this rate am I?0
