Couch to 5k Running - Part Three

Hope your ankle mends quickly CupofChai!!
I had to post as I had such a good day. I'd done Week 4 runs on Monday and Wednesday and thought today I might just try running and see how long I could go for...well, I did 2 minutes of walking then managed to run (well, jog!) for FIFTEEEN MINUTES!!! Ok, it was at 6.5kph but I was properly jogging, absolutely no walking at all and I felt great, no pain or anything and my heart rate wasn't that bad either - no higher than my usual runs.
So, I'm thinking I actually may be ok getting through this C25K thing after all. I just don't know how I'll go about planning increasing speed afterwards as I definitely can't keep doing 6.5kph. 10kph would be an absolute dream but a bit optimistic at the moment I guess!0 -
lvm - you are doing so well - what perseverance.
Please do not worry about speed - that is so unimportant right now. The official view is what is important is slowly increasing your time: that will build stamina and fitness.
Once your are running 30 mins 3x a week (and it doesn't matter how long it takes you to get there), then you can work on bursts of going faster.I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
CoC, haven't you mentioned before about ankle injuries? Is it worth getting a doc to look at it?
Get well soon!

Definitely give it a go. Believe me, if I can do this, anyone can. I've gone from the Week 1 runs...which were horrendously difficult for me, damaged my knees, hurt my ankle etc...to yesterday running for 15 minutes.
Only 4 weeks ago I was saying to myself "there's no way I can do the 3 minute runs".
Good luck!0 -
Hi,
Is this thread just for people who are part way ( at least) through their running thing?
Ive tried to read as much of it as I could but there are 91 pages now :-00 -

Not at all (not that I'm aware of anyway...I came across this thread when I just started [STRIKE]running[/STRIKE] panting heavily after a 30sec jog!)
I'm still very much a beginner...although getting far too obsessed with looking at different training plans!
Are you thinking of starting C25K?0 -

Thanks! I don't think I have, and decided not to bother with docs because I could still walk and put weight on it. It's a lot better now, so I think I should be able to get out this week (assuming I can bother myself, really how does anyone else deal with that?). Wondering what it was I actually did to it.
I'm also not sure how to go about getting faster as I don't feel I've been making much progress there, anyone got any tips for what to do?
Edit - No, it's for anyone really, I joined when I'd only just started C25K and now I've finished that plan but I'm still here! Anyone can and does join it at any point in their running.0 -
Hi (again)
Yes Ivm, I am.
Having comforted eaten my way out of a horrid relationship and the following 2 year recovery, I've finally hit the heaviest I have ever been and also the unfittest, to the point where there is no way I am going to the gym ( that I am still paying 40 a month for lol) .
Tried road running but in all honesty, I hated it. Far too self conscious, stopping every time there was a car near by, and the roads where I am are back roads, tiny, and the cars tank along at stupid speeds.. just not safe with my level of fitness and co-ordination.
Have signed myself up to do the race for life ( and I shall prob need 'the kiss of', at the end) ... treadmill arrived today, so I shall be starting the programme later this evening.
Already have a really good pair of trainers that I got when I tried the road running.
Have 999 / oxygen supplies on speed dial.
:eek::eek:
I know I am going to need a lot of support and advice and guidance along the way.
Although I have a friend who is a 'proper runner' and is very excited about my new venture, her suggestion of ' lets pop out for a short 3 miler together' ( !!!!!!!!) made me realise that she is perhaps a bit over excited and a bit too advanced for me, unless she is actually trying to kill me. .... its a possibility.
First effort tonight
Wish me luck lol0
