I've got a cold too - really annoying as I was just getting into all my exercise.Never let your sucesses go to your head and never let your failures go to your heart.:beer:0

can I ask what sort of trainers or running shoes you have. Did you get them from a specialist shop or do you just get the regular cheaper sort?0

I went to a running shop for my first pair and got them to analyse my gait. Since then I just bought the same type of trainers online.Never let your sucesses go to your head and never let your failures go to your heart.:beer:0

Hello all!
Am looking to get fit and back into running (when I say "back into" the last 5+ at least years I have been awful at keeping to any kind of fitness regime!)
would like to do a 5k and then perhaps a 10k run at some point but also get back into regular exercise...is there some kind of programme/tips ?...my motivation is not the best - especially at my shocking level of fitness at the moment :rotfl:0 -
Hello - Week 4 done and dusted.
Although I've been following the C25K podcasts, I have now found a couple of songs that match perfectly with my running speed so have been mixing them into my routine.
Amara - Well done on week 2. I was like that, the whole "wow I can run 60 secs/90 secs/120" and still feel like that as it builds up. Have you looked at the Race for Life in your area? Granted, its not free but its 5K/3 miles and its for charity so you get to feel just a tiny bit better about it.
Didn't get round to Body Pump though. Will see if I can fit it in this week.
Well bring on Monday - the quicker this week starts, the quicker its over! :rotfl:How long til pay day?

Great work Amara, I remember being super chuffed that could run for 2 mins! Keep going and before you know it, you'll be running for 5 .. then 8 .. then 10!!
Skintlass, am on the tail end of a cold, so didn't run at all last week, another week behindBut I'm catching up to you TRH, well done for finishing Wk 4
Will be starting Wk 4 tomorrow morning - no excuses!!
Welcome Deleted_User! Motivation is not my strong suit either - can you set yourself a timetable and stick to it? Or tell us or someone at home that you are going to go at a certain time - I always feel that I have to go if I've told someone, even if it's on the MSE forums! The C25K podcasts definitely help me keep going.Couch to 5K Running 2009/2010/2011

I know it was over 2 weeks ago I popped on here but due to immense tooth ache I had to put my running plans on hold.
But I have just got back from my 1st c25k run/walk and I am feeling really pleased that I managed it. I only had 1 hiccup when halfway through 1 running session I had to stop due to a lorry reversing across the pavement in front of me and I wasn't going to argue (it was bigger than me).
But my only concern is how do I know if I am running at the correct speed? It feels like I am going really fast and at the end of 60 sec it takes a good 30 to get my breath back. Sorry for stupid question but as I have never run in my life before I don't know what I am doing. Should I just go with what I am doing but I don't want to go too fast and end up not being able to complete longer running sessions later IYSWIM
Amara - I wont laugh I just wish that I could run longer than 60sec but I am pleased that I managed that. Well doneRestarting C25K in 2014 - Week 8 - 1/3 completed
Need to loose 25lb / 3lb lost so far0 -
Hi Peeps,
Good to see that there are new people starting the program. I'm hoping to up my running as the days are getting lighter earlier so I should be able to get out and run midweek as well, once this blinking cold goes of course.Never let your sucesses go to your head and never let your failures go to your heart.:beer:0 -

My advice would be to 'run' vey slowly, in fact run is probably the wrong word, more a plodding jog as i would describe my own pace. If I begin to feel out of breath I do slow down a bit so I'm still jogging but not quickly IYSWIM.
I'm on week 4 on a 9 week plan which means I run 3, walk 2, run 5, walk 3 twice and on the 5 minute run I am a slow jog/quick walk pace. In fact i think I could probably walk quicker by the time I get the the second 5 minute run!!! But I've found taking a slower pace is the key to being able to do the longer runs without feeling really out of breath and looking like a ripe tomato!:D
skintlass - I prefer to run in the morning. I'm normally out the door at 7, which is slightly mad but there is only me and a couple of dog walkers around if I'm unlucky to see my efforts. There are loads of runners etc that use the same path and it's far too embarrassing having to compete with them while I'm struggling with a 3 minute run.0 -
I wouldn't be embarrassed, I've never seen a runner that wasn't encouraging :-). I prefer running in the morning as well, preferably before my body knows its awake.Never let your sucesses go to your head and never let your failures go to your heart.:beer:0
