Managed wk 4 run 3 yesterday in the hot weather, it was the hardest one though, how is it that I did it on Sunday and Tuesday but then yesterday my calves were hurting and it was much more of a struggle! although for the very last minute of the run I tried to run with a bit more effort, so I suppose that's something...

I am going to start wk 5 tomorrow and will see how it goes before I decide if I need to repeat wk 4, I am still of the mindset that I will never be able to run for any real length of time, but then again I still feel so much better for what I am doing so if I can't manage without intervals I think I will just try to very very gradually increase my running rather than jumping to 20 minutes...

I think I might get myself a heart monitor, will pop onto amazon now and see if they have any....

elkay115 well done for getting out this morning....

    Looks like another lovey day...

69chick - you will be fine with Week 5 Run 1. I found that Run 1 of the following week is easier than Run 3 of last week. Of course, it doesn't work frwom Week 7, as Week 7 Run 1 is the same as W6R3... And no more breaks!!!!!

Week 5 run 2 done:j Lovely morning but legs started to hurt the last few minutes. Not at all convinced I will manage the 20 min run next. Planning to go out sunday morning so will keep you posted.

Can anyone let me know which site/program you use to find out how far you have run? I have a pedometer but I am not convinced it is very accurate.

Well done everyone else who has been out. Enjoy the sunshine :)

I didn't manage 20 min run in Week 5, I had to make a break. I think I did 14 min + 6 min, but still moved on to Week 6. But know i did 25 min run!!!!

At the moment I plot mine on walkjogrun.co.uk but my pet boy prefers mapmyrun - both do pretty much the same thing and I like the 'search' feature on wjr, so I can look up routes other people have mapped locally of a similar distance to whatever I plan to run.

Well done cookiemum 69chick and ginvzt.:j

To everyone asking about heart monitors I love mine. I bought a quite expensive one from Amazon .I bought the first one that made a personalised programme for you. Essentially it measures your heart at rest and then sets you up a programme for the next week according to your own personal goals. It isn't as easy as it sounds because it wants you to train a lot in zone 2 to build up your stamina but it can be quite hard to get your heart in the exact zone. However I know I am getting fitter because originally I could get into zone 2 with just a fast walk but now I have to jog to get into the same zone. I find it very motivating. I have had it since February and my fitness levels have increased. The only down side is you have to pay extra to get something that measures your distance. Which I have now done. I did this because I run on footpaths and mapmyrun does not work on them.
I worked out that it cost me about the same as gym membership for two or three months, so now it's free;) oh and I know this is really sad but if you get your targets it displays a trophy on your watch for a week.

elkay115 glad to have you back...I asked Drea where you were only the other day.

I like your heart rate monitor, teachergirl! I think mine is much simpler, although on Amazon it still costs £100!!! Since it was nearly free (used OH's lufthansa miles that were about to expire + a bit of cash (10 euros)), it is fine. Ok, I only have it for second day, so I haven't checked all out (well, haven't read the manual yet), but it does show if you are burning fat or improving fitness, which is quite nice. So, now sitting on the sofa and typing I am burning fat;)

I am wearing all day today to see how many calories I use in a day. It is 609 kcal since 6:45am this morning.

    Oh, it is Polar FT7.

Just giving this a bump, as we are getting new posts in the old thread instead of this new one.

    Ginsvt whats a bump???

Morning campers. Week 2 run 3 done sort of...but it wasn't my fault:D
I had a lie in and didn't start runnning until 7.45am when it was already 17 degrees. I was having to run really slowly to keep my heart in zone 2. First interval was done and I was in my first minute walk when a baby lamb ran across my path. I tried to shoo it back into the field but it didn't want to go. I could not see an obvious hole for it to go through and then I realised I was not sure which field it was supposed to go into anyway.(all mummy sheep look the same to me!) So I stopped my heart monitor and went into the farm. I had to chase a car to get hold of one of the workers to tell him about the escapee. Then I went back to the path and resumed my heart monitor. It was then that I realised I had forgotton to stop the podcast:( ( I wouldn't have this trouble if I was pounding the streets.) So I carried on from where I was at. The heat meant I was running very slow to keep in zone 2, so I decided to go on the additional sea wall to make up for the bit I missed. After I had finished my 4th run, I power walked. When I got to the bit where I should turn and go home I only had to do another 10% in zone 2 to get to 100% so I carried on and promised that when I got to 100% I would sprint all the way home. I did.:D (luckily it wasn't that far.)
Total exercise time one and a half hours. Total run time who knows;)

All in all I feel great:D Just give it a few hours and I will regret todays enthusiasim. If I have any energy in the morning I might go on a run without my heart monitor.Just for fun.

Good luck to anyone running today.

Went for W5r3 again this morning, I had completed week 5 last week but thought I'd try and repeat run 3 all this week seeing as it is a 20 min run. I cant seem to manage to do it again, this morning was my 3rd time of trying this week. I expect Week 6 just increases the time and that will be even more difficult to attain!

    Feel like giving up!!! Grrrrrrrrr!
