You what:huh: Like I said too technical for me.

You and mumto2 gave me the same link so it's on the first post twice now, oops.
    Seems it is.
I avoided my run last night... :o I really should go tonight.

I like the sound of the interval runs that teachergirl posted about. Somehow 4x8 mins doesn't seem as hard as a whole 28 minutes all in one go.

I mean, if I for people who do marathons or half marathons, do you run for the full distance..? I think most people must stop for a few minutes to recharge their batteries. That's why I think Ullrey's final couple of weeks are so difficult and feel impossible.

Yeah I avoided mine yesterday too (there, I said it :rotfl:) so going to try go out and do something tonight because I'm away for the weekend.

It really does feel impossible, I was thinking I might make my own intervals up or try the one that teachergirl is doing, could do the first week of that for a couple weeks. One long run is really not working for me!

I can't be doing with running for prolonged periods of time, which is why I initially didn't use the podcasts for my runs - I measured routes by distance and simply got my backside around them and timed it.

At the moment I'm working on reducing my times by training according to my HRM - it's set to a max of 185bpm, when I reach 180 I sprint until its reading 185, then jog until it drops back down to 180, if my legs are feeling tired I'll then walk until my HR drops to 170 before running again.

It sounds horribly complicated but basically whenever I want to walk I force myself to sprint before I actually walk. Until this current lack of motivation and I hit the plateau the times and average HR were both coming down as well as the distances I'm actually running comfortably between walks increasing.

I think most people who run half or full marathons do run the whole way - I have to say I walked for part of the great north run though as it was the very hot year in which 5 people died.
I have run over 11 miles without stopping in training though (a long time ago) so if I can do it anyone can.
Wow, 11 miles is great. I can't even do 2!! I know a lot of the fun runners in the GNR do intervals, though there are some proper hardcore runners too. I dread to think how I'd feel after running 13 miles

Right, I'm going out soon... I promise :o I can't say I have much enthusiasm at the moment though.

I went for my run this evening in the gym and I did it!!!! Ok, not the 5k in 30 min, but I managed Week 6 Run 3, and not bad at all - I still managed to do 10 min on cross-trainer and 6 min on 'skiing machine' (I don't know how it is called, that is my name for it...).

I was only intending to do run 2, but I was going ok, and I was feeling ok after 10 min, so I just kept running! I even managed a bit of a sprint for the last minute.

I have received the heart rate monitor and it was great to see, that even though I was getting tired, I could see that my heart rate was keeping pretty constant.

Well done ginvzt! You have skipped ahead of me now! I am planning to do run 3 tomorrow before work (or possibly after) but am hoping it isn't as hot as yesterday as that was the hardest run yet!

I want a heart rate monitor... would be interested to see what mine is, esp. when I hit the point where I feel sick :S

Well I went out - that's the positive part! The negative - I didn't do the full 28.
    ran for 8 mins
    stopped for 1
    ran for 9 mins
    stopped for 1
    then ran til the end.

My mum (who is 2.5x my age!) put me to shame by running the full 28 without stopping. We both started training at the same time too :o

Tesco do one for about £15, or you can spend a bit more and get a Polar HRM for about £20, or £30 depending on which model they have in stock. I love mine, def been the best training aid I have - I may be slightly addicted though, I have a spreadsheet record of my max HR and average HR plotted against time and distances...... :o

I am back for the kick up the bum I need to get running again. Had to take a week off, then was just getting back into it then went down to visit the fella in London for 2 weeks, did take my running stuff, but only ran twice, it just didn't feel right not doing my usual route. Since I got back I have been feeling really quite ill and a bit down with the cold and hayfever.

So here I am, back again! I couldn't sleep so chucked my running stuff on, am having a cuppa then going to head out. I reckon I will need to start from week 3 again though.

Oops I made a booboo and ended up on Week 4! Didn't do too badly considering I haven't run for quite a while. I couldn't manage the last 5 mins though, only done about a minute I think. So I done 5 minutes on my bike as soon as I got in to make up lol. Think I might just continue on with week 4 now though :)

Well I have been out now, so that should stop Drea phoning me every day to see if I have run yet. :) :P
