Hi guys, haven't read through the whole thread as I've just not got time at the mo' but wanted to gauge opinion on something.

How possible (or completely foolish!) would it be for a 40 something, unfit, overweight couch potato to sign up for a 5k run which is being held in 7 weeks? Have I got any hope of getting fit enough in that time bearing in mind I can literally barely run for a whole minute at the moment. :o
It will be hard but as long as you're dedicated you should be able to do it. The couch to 5K plan is based on running three times a week which means that at one point you have two rest days in a row - if you gave some of these up and ran every other day you would be able to fit more in, but you also need to listen to your body so that you don't overdo things. It also depends whether you would be willing to walk during the race if necessary, but then you might find that depending on the atmosphere you can do much better than in your training sessions anyway. They will have hopefully found a nice course for you (I've done the Race For Life and it's wonderfully flat course) whereas where you train may be slightly more hilly or just generally worse.

Remember that even if you come last you've still achieved something.

Hello, may I join you lovely peeps?

I started this last week after running a bit last year and quite enjoying it. Going to do the last week one run tomorrow morning.

I'm using podcasts (not Ulley's ones though, the Podrunner ones I think) as well and this does help. Although for other gym work I use my own music.

I'm not too overweight according to the BMI stuff but I want to get fit as my other half is a lean machine (git :D) and he's doing some 10K runs this year so I'd like to be able to go out and run with him when he trains. It would help my health.
How long til pay day?

A target is an excellent idea, I keep thinking about booking in for a 10k but am a bit nervous as I have a fair amount of weight to lose and I've only just restarted ww.

    I'm fat and I've run a marathon!

I did the Robin Hood Half in 2009, and the Great North in 2010.

Well done, thats excellent. I've done the Great north myself in the past and a few 10kms. I will see how my training goes.

    Hi everyone,
I was on this thread a lot last year when I started running for first time in my life to train to do the Race for Life. Recognise a few names, so hello :j
I did the run and was really happy, did carry on running for a few weeks, but then ended up fizzling out.
Going to do it again this year, so will be back on here in a little while (just waiting for it to warm up a few degrees :o)

Good luck to everyone who is running for the first time - this program really works. :)
    Now proud Mumto3 :j
