Couch to 5k Running - Part Three

  • Hi Juno and everyone else. I actually bought Womens running as well. It is only the second magazine about running that I have ever bought and I confess I have not had time to read it yet:o I have had loads of school work to do. Which brings to mind another thing. I am not sure how I am going to manage three runs a week. Last year I had Tuesday afternoon off and Friday as I only work part time. This year they really mucked my timetable up as they"forgot" I had an afternoon off. So now I am down to one hour extra off on a Thursday and Friday off:( Obviously I will get paid a bit more which is good as I have decided to become a mortgage-free-wannabe but it means that I don't have a midweek time for a run. I hate, and am useless at running in the evening because I am either exhausted, or running the kids around ,or both:eek:
So I can run first thing on a Friday and first thing on a Sunday but I'm not sure I will be able to fit another one in. I have also in a fit of madness got the kids to purchase the "shred" video thing that everyone keeps going on about on some of the other forums.
On the positive side I have been able to get into some trousers I have not fitted into for a year and I love that feeling:D
So watch this space....hopefully I will run on Friday. Fedupandskint I will be using podrunner G28K as well .
Enough money to live on so retired early...planning to see where life takes me:D

Juno - thanks for telling me about which magazine it was!

teachergirl -I'm v.similar, not keen on running in the evening either as usually v.tired from work. I set my alarm for 4.55am, get up about 5.15ish, set off at 5.30-5.40 run for 35mins so far and will be setting off earlier as the runs get longer - eek! Then come back, take the dog out for a cool down walk for me, have breakfast etc then set off for work at 7.50am to start at 8.30am. Don't know what I will do when it get's closer to winter. Will have to run both days at the weekend and maybe start a couple of evening runs - will see

I thought I got up early at 5.45am...and I am walking the dogs by 6.25am. If I got up any earlier I think the kids at school would have to wake me up for the last period.;)

If you follow the plan then yes it works. It's hard and you will feel like you're dying at times, but it works. You might feel some bits are too hard and you have to repeat weeks, but that's ok as long as you're doing something.

I started the programme a few years ago and next week I'm doing the Great North Run for Cancer Research.

  • KT8 I started this programme in February. Before I went on holiday I was running 8K. I have lost just over half a stone which for someone like me, who is over a "certain age," is very good as it takes so much longer to loose weight. More important than the weight lose though is the fact that I feel so much healthier and I enjoy my food even chocolate etc because I am doing enough exercise to be able to enjoy these things occasionally.:)

Anyway I did it:j I did the podrunner GT8K week 1this morning. ( I was actually doing week 8 or 9 before the hols but I thought I would play it safe!) I had to run around the roads as it was very wet here. I am not sure that I needed the intervals though because the children were all walking to school and every time I saw a spotty youth I sped up no end and put my head down to run past:o I does feel SO good when you have finished.:D I'm pleased with myself it was quite easy so I might skip a few weeks for Sundays run. The kids bought me the "shred video " for my birthday yesterday so I might have a go later on whilst I am feeling keen. Fabulous new body for Christmas???????:rotfl:

    Juno how is the foot?

    Happy belated bitrthday teachergirl,

Yourself and juno are a real inspiration to me, you can both run so far and you both get up rediculously early to do it. I struggle to get up at half 7 to get the kids out!

i decided to get back to one of my old running routes beside the lake this morning, i'm so lucky, the views are beautiful, i might try and get some pics up.

I did week 2 again and couldn't manage the last run as my calf decided to tighten up, so thought it best to play it safe and stop and stretch it. week 3 on mon

Foot is now not swollen, and I can actually walk rather than hobble.

I hate mornings  I'm the type of person that stays up late to run - 8pm is a good time. Or on my days off I run late afternoon.

When I first started I went out at about 9pm so that it was dark and no one could see me.

I've found a new route that's lovely. Well, I knew it was there but it's quite far from my house so I've only just started using it. I have to get there and back, which is about 2 miles in total, but I need to be able to run further than that to actually do the run in the middle.

That was a really bad explanation.

I just relised I got you, juno, mixed up with fedupandskint. I find it really hard to even go for a walk in the evenings, i'm definatley not a night owl, although i dont think i'm a morning person either, before 7 is the middle of the night to me.

Your post did make sense. I have to drive to the lake to do the run but it's lovely because there very rarely anyone else there, apart from the occasional husband sleeping in the car:D
