I came back to see how you're all getting on.

I safety pin my house key to the inside of my bra when I run - I take my back door key which is flat and like a yale key, rather than my front door which is a traditional key shape. I'm sure it must look strange to the neighbours when I've got my hands down my top attaching it, but I don't care.

Ran 5K today! Made the target and am well pleased have got this far!

Just shows you it can be done from no running at starting at Run 1 Week 1 and hanging in there to get to the end and 5K!

Hope this inspires someone to give it a go. I feel so much better and happy for doing this and taking the first step at the end of June to start this programme. I don't think I would have started running without this podcast and its certainly helped me over the last couple of months. The other thing that really helped was the steady progression of the training plan and it was nice a steady and achievable

Onwards for me now - my next aim is to keep running and increase to 10K distance over the next few months

Thanks for all of the support on here that helped me a) take the plunge and start running and b) keep going!

  • Hello everyone!

I started using the Get Running couch to 5k app yesterday and really struggled with the first run.... 60 seconds of running wasn't a problem but repeating it after just 90 seconds nearly killed me! Any tips to make it through the set without pausing?

Keep going. Make sure you smile. Go slowly - if you're not overtaken by a snail, you're too fast. And just keep trying, really.

I am still being horribly lazy and now haven't got off my bum and been out running for almost 4 weeks. I promise to do better once I've moved in to my new room and hopefully started work.
It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

    Well done!

You can work on your speed later if you really want to, but you'll probably find you're not as slow as you think anyway. Yeah, you won't be running at a 4 minute mile pace but I wouldn't be surprised if (when you get there) you do your 5k in 30-40 mins, which is a 10 min mile pace and quite respectable.

The early weeks are very much about getting used to doing something and getting used to doing that 3 times a week. So as long as you complete it there's no such thing as completing it badly.

You can also have a smack, but less so. Are you sure you shouldn't be resting your, um, "hell kneee"? You don't want to overdo things and make it worse.

  • Will soon be back from my big adventure. Have eaten noodles for breakfast dinner and tea! Not sure my body remembers running. But hope to get into it again. Have followed the thread but where is everyone? Nice to hear from you again juno. Keep up the good work everyone else.
