    Week 4 run1 complete! I feel amazing.

Iy was tough, but do-able. I probably found it tougher because I only ran twice last week. But wow the progress is amazing. I have achieved so much!

This is so true Gonzo, wait until your doing the 10 and 20min runs. I feel amazing afterwards! Did my second park run yesterday and was just as good as last week!

I ran it in 33mins 20odd seconds, 1min better than last week. I'm happy with that.
  • Well done Gonzo, you're making great progress . It did amaze me how quickly I could go from struggling to run for a minute to running for 5 and then 10 minutes.

Since I finished the programme I've been continuing to run 3 times a week, twice in the gym and outside on a Sunday morning. I've managed to plan the weather so I've only ever been out in light rain but the wind has been quite ferocious sometimes!

I am now running for 40 minutes on a Sunday, covering just over 5km. My best 5k time has been 38.5 minutes and I'm very happy with that.

You're doing great tinofpeas. I can't get to my local parkrun as I don't have a car and it is not easy to get to by public transport. Don't know if I'm ready to run in a group yet anyway. I think I prefer to do my own thing just now.
  • Well done everyone.

Quick update. After finishing C25K a couple of months ago we are still going strong.

I had to have a break of nearly 3 weeks due to a flair up of sciatica but as soon as was able was back up to jogging 5k after only a couple of shorter test runs :j . I try to get at least 4 runs a week.

The wife, well she has really taken to it, the jogging combined with the 5:2 diet has helped with a massive weight loss of nearly 7 stone :T.

She tries to jog every day except Sunday and really misses it if she doesn't get chance. She usually does 5k but sometimes does more, she has even done a 10k

So keep up the good work, it is definitely worth the effort.
  • I have read this thread on and off for a while, and been inspired, and want to actually join in with some running instead of just reading! LOL

I am now on annual leave for 2 weeks, so its a good time for me to get on and start.

Has anyone got any tips on how to get started without a podcast, as I dont have a smartfone or mp3.

    Thanks
In case this helps, I bought a cheap mp3 player for £11 from argos an it's worked brilliantly.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

I never thought I'd be saying this but I'm so jealous reading about everyone going out and doing their runs.

I managed up to the first run of Week 2 last Monday however my knees were unbearable. Just back from a weekend away where I did LOTS of walking about and took painkillers so didn't feel any pain until the Ibuprofen wore off. Also managed to pull my calf muscle in the process (although no idea how!).

So with the calf pain, I'm not quite sure if the knee pain is still there although I haven't done any treadmill work since last Monday and stuck to the bike so hoping it will fade soon.

I would be so happy if my knees turned out to be ok again once the calf had healed and I could restart the c25k again as I'm soooo wanting to do it.

Unfortunately I think a huge issue is my weight and this will have contributed massively to the knee pain.

I'm just not sure how to get started without doing any more damage. Thinking maybe starting off slower - just walking for 30 mins and increasing pace over time then introducing 30 second jogs might help...but suggestions more than welcome!

In the meantime, I'm trying to be a bit more health conscious and am taking some raspberry ketone pills (I'll try anything!!) to get some weight off. But obviously that doesn't happen overnight :-(

Well done to everyone else who's managing to get through this!

How about having a chat with your Dr. about the best way to go about starting? That way you can do what you can to avoid the risk of injury.

I finished Week 4 Run 2 today, it was good. I need to find a new route now my running intervals are getting longer, as my last 5 mins was uphill (where I normally do my cool down) and it was a killer. So Thursday's run will try a new flatter route.

Realised my first 20 min run will take place on boxing day... not sure how good of an idea this is!!

Agreed, lvm definitely speak to your doctor.

I'm struggling to get out this week so far because it keeps raining! I've been out before and it's started to drizzle, but I'm not going when it's absolutely chucking it down, I'll only end up getting ill.

I've been really lucky - not had to run in any rain yet. I seem to manage to miss it. But not looking forward to it when I do!

Mostly it's because it mean both the dog and I needing a shower after run instead of just me!!

He seems to be enjoying our Couch to 5k training now - wasn't too sure about it when we first started because it means he can't sniff every blade of grass or wee on every lamppost in the world!
