Couch to 5k Running - Part Three

Besides, if someone tries to take the mick, well it says a heck of a lot about them.
Lol, I dread to think how many hours of my life I've spent running in dread of someone heckling me, thinking of witty retorts and the like. The other day it actually happened for the first time in years.
I was running along and a couple of young girls hanging out at the bus stop (classy) yelled "run! run! run!", so I responded (you can tell all that thought on witty retorts has paid off) "I'm running!"
I carried on and went round the block, about 25 minutes later I went past again and got a "oh my God! You're still running!", to which I responded "oh my God, you're still sat on your !!!!"
Made me happy, anyway0 -
Ms Chocaholic - thanks. I don't have a car, and last night I tried what you suggest about doing the warm-down walk back up the hill, but there's nothing but hills all over the place round here! I'm just telling myself they help with building stamina and fitness, haha.
Idiophreak - Hah, nice comeback!0 -
Hope you went for it Kiwi?
Yes I did week 5 run 1 again and got through it okay but only a half hearted attempt at run 2 yesterday to see I could do 8 minutes non-stop as I was short on time to do the whole thing.Mortgage

I need to plan a route too, at the moment I'm sort of just running along the street until I get halfway through the podcast, then turning back. And I'm furious with where I live too, I seem to be at the top of a hill. So at the beginning of the run I can't help but go downhill, then near the end when I'm all knackered I have to run uphill!
I had similar issues in reverse I have to go uphill at the start which leaves me exhausted by the time I start the first run, so now I drive to the starting point and try to vary it a bit and change routes so as to avoid bits I don't like doing in the dark or late in the evenings or when it's busy.Mortgage

Can I just ask if anyone has suffered with stitch? My nearly 12 year old son likes to run with me but he really suffers with stitch some days. The most he has managed is 1 1/2 miles but other days like today the stitch has kicked in after 5 minutes and nothing will get rid of it!
We have a 5 minute walking warm up, we don't start off jogging too fast, don't run too soon after eating, he has tried stretching before/during/after. He has been practising his breathing, i'm running out of suggestions and he is desperate to do a 5k with me next month which is looking less and less likely now
Just wondered if anyone had any other suggestions?
Thank youSlimming World - 3 stone 8 1/2lbs in 7 months and now at target :j0 -

Could you try a longer warm up? I know 5 minutes is what C25k tells you to do, but I know I take much longer to get properly warmed up. Stitches get less frequent and less severe the fitter you get, too, so hopefully they'll wear off soon.
There are loads of tips and tricks for getting rid of stitches out there on the internet, but apart from actually stopping for a bit or running through it, I never found anything that worked any more than hiccup cures do.Saving for deposit: Finished! :j

The best thing I found for stitch is 1, keeping really well hydrated and 2, try exhaling when your left foot hits the ground. I read that somewhere and it really works. I used to get stitch bad but haven't had it for a while.0 -
I've just found this thread! I'm starting my couch to 5k as I'm desperately unfit and overweight - I did the Great North Run a few years ago believe it or not! And I used to play rugby every week and train for it twice a week so I know the fitness is there, its just hiding under rolls of fat and lazyness. I will get back to my fitter self!0

Hi all, I am thinking of starting the couch to 5k. I have got as far as to download the podcast from the nhs website with good old Laura.
My only problem is fitting in a run (or attempt!) I have 2DD's and am a single parent to them. I work 9-5 and with the nights now starting to get darker I am concerned about being able to juggle everything.
Does anyone know if this will work if you are running on the spot? I can commit to this late in the evening once my DD's are in bed. A run before or after work is just not possible. So am thinking this is my only option. Surely this is better then nothing?
Can anyone advise, I have been reading through this thread in a hope someone is doing the same. I can't be the only one with this issue, and I'm feeling motivated to do this so don't want it to hold me back.0
