I've finally found my teeny MP3 player and got a new laptop which will hopefully work properly and am planning to *finally* download and start using the program. Been running home from work for a few weeks, so will probably just use the mp3 when I run on my days off - with the running home from work have managed to build up from 2.30 mins running to about 6 mins in a short space of time but finding it hard to push myself beyond certain points at which I usually stop running for a short walk so hoping that using the C25K will help me with that too.

  • Today was graduation day for me! :D Week 9 Run 3 and I decided beforehand to celebrate I would run until I hit 5k. It took me forty two minutes to do it but I got there in the end without stopping and I'm happy! I got off the treadmill jumping around the room at 6am singing ''I did it, I did it''. lol

I am super proud of myself for not giving up as there were plenty of days I nearly talked myself out of running, but did it anyways or when I had a cold and kept going, or my legs felt tired. I'm always full of excuses, but didn't listen to them. lol I wish I could say I love running by now, but I don't. However I do like the way it makes me feel afterwards and how my body is taking shape too and how since I started running I drink anywhere from two to three litres of water every day, as I crave it now and limit myself to one glass of diet coke in the day.

So where do I go from here? Well, I will continue to run three times a week and for the next month I will stay at thirty minutes because I want to feel more comfortable at this pace and then after that I will work on my speed to pick up my pace. And to everyone out there on the program or just starting out I just want to say don't give up or listen to the thousand and one excuses your brain can give you because you can do it! Just remember the reason why you started in the first place and keep on running! :D

    Well done Little_evo!

I went for a short run yesterday evening (still not set up the new lappy so can't download the mp3's yet). Managed 1.4 miles in 14 mins, quite disappointed in myself as I stopped for a walk after less than 3 mins, but the route has a fairly steep slope right at the start compared to the flatish route home from work. But I think I redeemed myself by managing to run the entire last .7 mile to the level crossing (had to stop as a train was passing).

Just gone to download the program but it looks like the website linked to in the OP is down but managed to find the podcasts on this site instead. http://www.c25k.com/podcasts.htm

  • Hey all

I'm interested in the C25K after reading stuff about it but I have a few concerns:

    1. I am overweight and have never ever run before.
    2. i have vertigo (I get dizzy and nauseous), and was told by Dr to avoid exercise back in March. I'm feeling much better now and feel that I am able to attempt some form of exercise without it making me dizzy
    3. The time of year. It will be dark in mornings and when I finish work :( I live by the sea but wouldn't want to run the coast path in the dark. There is an old dock I can run round outside my flat which is fairly well lit so would feel safe. I'm worried that with the dark and then the rain I won't be able to motivate yself to run!

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

If the Dr had concerns I'd double check before you start doing anything, maybe download the podcasts to let them listen to so they know what you're planning?

As far as motivation goes...no real advice you just have to get out and start doing it, I tend to run home from work at the moment, its cold and its dark and quite often its wet and it isn't fun, but now I'm in the habit of doing it I feel bad when I don't.

    Hey Flutterby,

I'm trying to get up the motivation to start again myself - with the dark mornings/nights and studying for exams it is super hard to get motivated. I tend to tell someone when I plan to go ... then I feel like I have to go. I'm even thinking of telling a friend that I will pay them £5-10 if I don't go - I won't want to part with my money, so maybe that will motivate me too!

I think the main thing is to listen to your body - it will tell you what you can cope with. Also, start off slow. Each time I start, my running is slower than my walking - but it slowly builds up your stamina and you'll be surprised at how you come along. Also, if you don't feel up to the next week, stick on the current week. At least you are still doing something :)

And let us all know how you are getting along - good days and bad. This thread has been such a good place to vent or celebrate our runs :)

    Good luck with starting! :)

Hi Flutterby, have you spoken to your doctor? If you do decide to start, then I would do as Sarsief suggests, start really really slowly, and build it up as you feel comfortable. Even if you spend two weeks on every one week of the programme, you'd still be running a whole 5k in under 4 months.

Sarsief, you can pay me if you like :rotfl: Good luck with re-starting, it's hard to get going at this time of year, isn't it?

I would just like to pop back here and wish everyone a happy new year and hope that you all achieve your C25K goals this year. Unfortunately I cannot join you at the moment because my current treatment is affecting my heart and I have been advised not to undertake exercise :( but as soon as they let me back I will be here and I imagine starting right at the beginning again so its nice to see this thread is still active.

Hi Poly1, nice to "see" you in here. I hope your treatment is working and not making you feel too bad. I'm really looking forward to seeing you announce that you are well enough to start running again :)

Happy New Year to all of us, runners old and new xxx
