  • Just had a webchat on O2.

If you are an existing O2 customer on a non-iPhone contract, you can buy a PAYG iPhone 4, get a mini sim for your existing number, shove it in your iPhone and off you go!!

No loss of unlimited internet (until your renewal). No need to get an additional simplicity contract and you flog your old phone (or keep it to use when you flog your iPhone 4 to get ready for the next upgrade).

    Hope this helps.

    Wow this is interesting...

Previously none o2 iphone sim's wouldn't work unless the iphone was jailbroken - so now ANY o2 sim will work in a new PAYG o2 iphone?!

Now that's awesome..! My £20 a month simplicity (1 month rolling) with unlimited internet is good for it! :D

I don't think PAYG does work out cheaper, Tesco one year contract is the best value at present.

Of course, as Martin has pointed out in the main iPhone article Tesco has been the best deal with the 3GS but there hasn't been a peep out of them about the iPhone 4 yet so it is a waiting game as to when/if they are gonna get it and what deal they will be doing.

    12 Month Tesco Mobile

250 mins + unlim txts and data

    £20 x 12 = £240 + £320 (16gb 3GS) £560
    £20 x 12 = £240 + £407 (32gb 3GS) £647

750 mins + unlim txts and data

    £35 x 12 = £420 + £200 (16gb 3GS) £620
    £35 x 12 = £420 + £275 (32gb 3GS) £695

    12 Month O2 Simplicity Route

300 mins + unlim txts and data

    £15 x 12 = £180 + £449 (16gb 3GS) £629
    £15 x 12 = £180 + £499 (32gb 3GS) £679

900 mins + unlim txts and data

    £25 x 12 = £300 + £449 (16gb 3GS) £749
    £25 x 12 = £300 + £499 (32gb 3GS) £799

All depends if you can pay out the intial cost.

Assuming these numbers are right (or right enough) for the 4 your "saving" £15 a month on simplicity.

So that means a year's subsidy is effectivly worth £180, and two years £360.

    On £20 PC simplicity it's £240/£480

An 3GS 16GB is £450 and the 32gb £549, so on a £15 2 year deal your looking at £90 extra over the contract, but on the £20 simplicity it's £60.

Now apple *WILL* release a new phone next year, question is are you willing to pay the extra to have the unlimited data or will you accept the cap that comes in. If you want to be able to upgrade to V5 are you willing to buy it on PAYG or have to pay to get out of your contrct as is being offered at the moment by o2? If you do then the £90 more is less than the £240 you'd have to pay (£20 PCM to buy out you contract this time)

Best thing is to sit and work out what you cn afford, then pick the best contract. Then decide if you do or do not want V5 and then buy what suits

Looks like all prices will be out Monday
