I have after downloading it 2 weeks ago. My 3G went down hill very rapidly. Apps would not open, couldn't make/receive phone calls, texting was painfully slow, couldn't reply to emails, very sluggish. Even after a number of reinstalls of OS4.0, still no change. I have this morning installed OS4.0.1 which seems to have ironed out a few of the bugs, but not all. At the end of the day, OS4 is just too powerfull for the 3G to cope with. Apple should give us back the OS3.1.3 downgrade and be done with it instead of pushing us towards 4G.
  • I have been having great fun by doing the same on my HTC Hero, seems like a massively overblown non-issue.
 I don't think you're allowed to post rational posts such as this! Surely it's an "epic fail" which only affects iPhones?

Oh hang on, yeah, it affects lots of phones (even HTC ones)... Not an issue for me either.

    Hi Jonty

I agree; it would be a good idea to have a selection of OS for you to use that is readily available. I do seem to remember seeing something on the Techie forum on how to use a back-up to revert back to OS3 so it may be worth you having a look on there.

It's been a few hours now since I installed OS4.0.1.

Ha!, what was I thinking. Where my texting speed has increased a little, not much in the way of "repairs" done and more issues. The phone seems to flicker between speedy, then very slow. Still got problems with emails, making phone calls, crashing Apps. Now since the 4.0.1 update my battery drains like water in a holed bag and my signal strength which was a healthy full 5 bars on 3.1 and even 4.0, is now down to one (1) bar.

Apple, this is past a joke now. Seriously, this is past a joke. Regardless if we have a iPhone 4 or 3G we are still Apple customers. I have been a Apple customer for a year without any problems. Then OS4 came out. And since this major fowl up with iPhone 4 and the OS4, I hope this is causing Apple as bigger a headache as it has for us customers. Only differance is, Apple have money to dig themselves out of this hole, where as most of us customers don't. Why should we keep throwing good money after bad.

3 weeks ago I had a 3G without a single problem, purchased because at the time the iPhone was ideal for what I wanted from a device. Now after seeing how Apple deal with it's customers, it's sloppy attitude and neglect with aftercare service, the issues with the software, customers (myself for example) spending considerable time searching for answers and ways to fix the bug created by Apple and to get my phone working again (some 7 installs of OS4/4.1). Now I wish I never had bought the thing. The ONLY light at the end of Apples tunnel is me with a torch fumbling around in the darkness trying to find my wallet to go and buy another phone from another manufacturer.

If I was an iPhone owner I would be straight down to the shops to return my phone and cancel my contract...

Its obvious that Apple will release a (hardware) fixed phone soon so anyone with the non-fixed version is going to be stuck using a "bumper" or case for the rest of their contract. Some might be fine with that but think about when you come to sell it in 18 / 24 months... imagine on ebay - who will want a "faulty" version when they could have the fixed version....

I have been having great fun by doing the same on my HTC Hero, seems like a massively overblown non-issue.

Look at one of my threads regarding this issue on the desire and what helped me work around it.

Signal strength is best compared using the raw signal values in dbm and asu values, both of which can be found on the desire, I am not sure if the same is there on the hero, but should be there as both are froyo 2.1. Antenna design probably is similar on both the devices and on my desire after the recent firmware update And me fiddling the settings the signal drop in my left hand with right bottom angle free is in the range of a drop of 4 to 10 dbm and in my right hand covering right bottom angle is about 10 to 14 dbm at worst. Probably 90% of people will be right handed and hold the phone in the left hand and type with the right. Even the worst figures I've quoted are on really trying hard to make it drop. Heard the froyo newly released Korean version had got a new global version of radio in the software that makes the signal handling even better, the desire will get it in a few months but I doubt the hero will get 2.2 froyo.

Shares of Apple Inc (AAPL.O) slid more than 4 percent on Tuesday after a poor review for its iPhone 4 from an influential consumer guide underpinned mounting complaints about the hot-selling device's reception and spurred speculation about a product recall.

Apple shares dipped below their 50-day moving average price of $256.26, sliding as much as 4.2 percent to $246.43. They pared losses to trade 2 percent lower at $252.19 Tuesday afternoon, as the Nasdaq gained 1.7 percent.

Shares of Research in Motion (RIM.TO) (RIMM.O), which makes the rival Blackberry, climbed 3.4 percent to $55.62. Google Inc (GOOG.O), whose Android operating system for smartphones is gaining traction on multiple devices, also rose, by more than 3 percent to $490.35, along with tech stocks overall.

The downward slide in their value is what caused the press conference. There are at least 2 US class actions and there may even be a UK class action against apple.

What is surprising is that the regulatory authorities are not investigating apple.
