    To those posters who said it looks like a girls phone how do you's come to that conclusion? To the fella who said it was fluffy and pinky etc why would you buy a phone that looked like a females phone in the first place for yourself? Weird. The iphone 4 is the best phone i've ever had and this is my first ever iphone. The speed of it etc and it 100% doesn't look like a females phone. I think some people just sit with pure rage and envy that they would do anything to make something look and sound silly.

    Ampletime, do you actually have anything nice to say? If not, go play somewhere else. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm getting sick of the slanging matches.

    This thread is about this iPhone 4; not the Desire, an XDA or anything by Samsung. If you don't like the iPhone 4, then that's entirely up to you. Please remember, however, that we really don't care what you think, just as you probably don't give two hoots about my opinions.

    The purspose of this site is as a forum for advice and help. And on that note:

    Threads and articles I've read elsewhere suggest that the problem with the signal dropping off is related to a software glitch. When you touch the metal either side of the band, the phone should recognise that you've linked the two areas together and changed the length of the available ariel. There are two solutions:

    1. Break the link
    Put something over the area to stop your hand linking the two areas. This can be a cover/case or even just a piece of sellotape - the tape looks silly, but it works as a temporary fix.

    2. Instal the new update from Apple when it arrives
    It's widely expected that iOS 4.0.1 will be available within a week or two (probably just before the next shipment of phones is available). The update will fix the software issue thats preventing the correct frequency modulation.

    So for a week or two, people will be walking around with sellotape over their phones. After that, this will all blow over and no one will even remember that there was an issue in the first place.

    I have said that the iphone 4 does look good but as lots have said and are entitled to say it isn't as great as what people like the poster djrobmac think and go on the offensive everytime a poster dares to say that the iphone 4 is not what it is made out to be. He also seems to think that Apple invented video calling, a 5mp camera and a camera on the front of a phone. I also seem to remember that this is a forum to discuss things so that i and others will and if you don't care much for what i think then so be it.

    It just so happens that the iphone 4 is a phone that doesn't work as it should, all the hype and people such as djrobmac getting all excited and can only see the good points they are not able to discuss the bad points beciuase in their small little minds anything with i or Apple before or after is perfect in every way. I'm sad to inform you it's not and i look at these things for a living.

    On another point, do you think that the solution to a design fault is to put tape round your phone regardless if it looks good or not on what is meant to be a 'ground breaking phone' that everyone wants or those of us that don't have one are jealous of?

    Just for djrobmac Apple shift 5% more than Android however from the last week of march to middle of April Android sold an increase of 5.1% from 1.6% to 6.7%. Android is also out selling iphone in the States, the Evo 4g will help push those figures up and Android sell 7 out of every 10 handsets and account for 26% of the smartphone market. Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe sell more Symbian phones than anything else. HTC sell 55% of total Android phones and Motorola account for 30%.

    77% of Android users are male, 57 % of iphone users are male , 30% of Android users are aged 25-34, 21% of iphone users are 25-34 and 17% of users of Android are 18-24 and 12% of iphone users are 18-24. 65% of people who own an ipod are 17 or under

    I really don't think it's a fair to compare Android handsets as one just because they use the same operating system. There are over a dozen different handsets currently available with Android OS on them. Apple, until the iPhone 4 just had three current iPhone models which all looked the same - effectively the same handset with different specifications. If Apple sold twelve variants (or allowed other manufacturers to use iOS) then it would be a fairer comparison.

    Android and Symbian are going to have more devices than Apple, but we're just talking about the operating systems and not the actual handsets. Compare the leading handset which uses Android and the iPhone and then you get a different result altogether.

    The market looks at the OS.

    Looking at getting this - will this work, has anyone ever had any problems getting cashback from vodaphone?

    16GB Sim Free iPhone 4 From Apple = £499
    12 Months Sim Only from Vodafone (600mins, Unlimited Texts, 1GB Data) @ £20PM = £240
    Total = £739
    Do the Vodafone deal with Quidco £100 cashback
    Total = £639

    I wouldnt touch vodafone with a bargepole, the whole customer facing side of the company is full of idiots who dont have a clue what is going on or are blatantly lieing, have a look at the 500mb desire thread on here
    12/24 months ago i'd have recommended them to anyone, now i wouldnt even recomend them to my worst enemy.

    Im glad that Im not the only one who has had a lousy experience with Vodafone; I got conned into opening an account on the 20th, with the promise that if I opened an account, a 32gb iPhone would be reserved for collection on the 24th (release date). I expressly stated I wouldn't open an account until I could locate a 32gb iPhone, and that I was happy to wait incase I had to source it via Phones 4U or Carphone Warehouse.. but he promised 3 times there wouldn't be a problem. On the 23rd, I was assured again that one was put aside for me.
    No surprises - the 24th I discovered I'd been lied to, and that there was no iPhone 4 reserved for me at the store after all. Vodafone CS then told me I could be put on a waiting list, and if I could locate one in a store, it could be connected. I did manage to locate a iPhone 32gb in a CPW store, but sure enough it couldn't be connected as CPW were treating it as a new connection, and Vodafone's system wouldn't let them treat it as a current/existing connection despite supplying the pre-authorised VFN account number.
    Now to make things worse, Vodafone's own system won't allow them to place an order on my behalf, and I'm relying on someone with a reminder in their calendar to keep an eye on it. I've been told 6 - 10 weeks for delivery, so if/when O2 open their iPhones to new connections, I'll tell Vodafone to screw themselves over.
    The instore rep basically opened my account to achieve target, as confirmed by Vodafone, but neither the branch manager or the area manager are interested in cleaning up the mess.
    I'm tempted to do a Thomson / Tunisia blog type thing like this bloke did http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/article-1213816/Thomson-says-sorry-customer-Thomson-Tunisia-review-beats-holiday-giant-Google-rankings.html

    or slightly less riskier is Tesco £35pm +£229 for handset = £649.

    Im sure you will get the £100 but it would take about 3 months to get it.

    I understand that but many (if not most) people would not choose their phone based mainly or solely on the operating system - they choose between handset design, features and operating system, or a combination of some or all of those things and more.
