Think you've answered your own question. The store staff won't know what the procedures are yet because their managers won't know. Tesco are still working on this. There is no valid reason for Apple to prevent Tesco from using a PAYG sim card with a contract.
I'm certain that you will be able to switch your contract phone to your new micro sim (if you can get an iPhone that is). Lots of people lose their phones and end up buying a PAYG phone to use with the existing contract.
Please don't attempt to cut the card down. Yes it can be done but it's unlikely to work first time and more importantly, there is no need to be considering this at this stage. We're talking about there being a hypothetical problem that may not even exist.0 -
I have been trying to upgrade and get some kind of offer out of Orange but they are not having any leway with the price plans. However they do give a discount on the handset prices.
Dont know what to do.
what sort of discount?
i was hoping they would give me more texts on their planWhat goes around-comes around0 -

It depends on how old your "normal" sim is. The older ones have a bigger chip and you cant cut those very successfully as you need to remove some of the actual chip. But most fairly new ones have a chip 1/2 the size and you can cut those as your only cutting the plastic.0 -

I'd be keen to hear what discount you got too. If they can match the price of the handset that Vodafone are offering I'd be happy to upgrade with them.
I thought the handset prices were fixed by Apple?0 -
guys..i am very confused so please help me. I am looking to buy the iphone 4 and i need about 600 voice min per month. I am not fussed about texts but i would like to have the maximum possible data allowance. I have decided on a 16 GB black version. will i be better off buying the handset from apple for £500 and then getting simplicity sim from O2 for £20/month for 12 months or is it better to stay with my current networ, vodafone, and sign to an 18 or even 24 months contract? what are the advantages of o2 simplicity? and does it give you unlimited data as they claim on the website?0

Updated the spreadsheet with real Vodafone prices, and added a "Value for money talktime" index https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0ApfeHZ96DqZMdGIwd0lfV2sxRHlwWWV4NW4zYUVaVVE&hl=en_GB&pli=1#gid=4
heres a handy spreadsheet to see what all the trariffs and handsets add up to
it really is up to you if you want to be tied in or not
if you havent reserved a phone though id get to the apple store early-its going to be madness on the 24th
and then who knows how long before their next stock arrivesWhat goes around-comes around0 -

From what I think i've learnt from this thread. O2 simplicity will give you unlimited data if you get the sim NOW before the 24th? the micro sims will have capped data.
Plus you are only tied in for 12 months rather than 24. You will have to shell out £499 for the handset though, if you can afford it then it would be best to do that and get the sim now.
I'm happy for others to correct me if I'm wrong!0 -

Just a slight correction - Simplicity contracts (both 1 month and 12 months) that are taken out before 24th June will have unlimited data. It has nothing to do with the micro sim cards. You will need a micro sim card if you wish to use the Simplicity contract with an iPhone but it is not the type of sim card which dictates whether the data will be capped.
It is the tariffs that are changing on the 24th - for all new contracts and all contracts which are renewed (renewed as in you sign up to another period of 18 or 24 months). It will not affect customers which have contracts that roll-on at the end of their contract period (such as Simplicity contracts).0 -

Yes you will need a micro sim for the iPhone but the micro sim does not affect the actual contract/tariff. Take out Simplicity before the 24th and you can transfer the Simplicity contract to the new micro sim without it changing the tariff or contract. It's exactly the same is if you lost your sim card. You contract would remain the same but your account would be transferred to a new replacement sim card.0
