Plus you are only tied in for 12 months rather than 24. You will have to shell out £499 for the handset though, if you can afford it then it would be best to do that and get the sim now.
I'm happy for others to correct me if I'm wrong!
You are right in saying you'll get unlimited data if you take out the simplicity now. However, you only get to keep the Unlimited until 31st October 2010 and then it will be changed to the 500mb regardless of how long you have left on your contract.
It is marketed as a "promotion" with a fair usage policy of 500mb. Meaning they arn't too strict if you go over your 500mb but they will change it in October to just giving 500mb and if you go over you pay.
And this is the get out clause so they can take it away from existing contracts;
Included Unlimited Wi-Fi and Web Bolt Ons for iPhone Customers only
The Unlimited Wi-Fi and Web Bolt On is included at no extra cost for customers connecting or upgrading to any iPhone tariff until further notice. O2 reserves the right to withdraw or amend this offer at any time on reasonable notice. Participating customers will receive 30 days notice via text message if changes are made to their disadvantage.0 -

That's not my understanding. The "promotion" until 31st October 2010 applies to iPhone contracts taken out as of 24th June 2010.
Any contracts before then, including simplicity state unlimited data and make no mention of a promotion but a fair use policy which has always been the case0 -
I currently have 3gs and im looking at buying the iphone4 sim free.
My contract at the minute is £35 pm which i get 600mins 500texts and unlimited internet.
If i buy it sim free from Apple and get a microsim i can still stay on this tariff, is this right?
i dont want to lose my unlimited internet.
Thanks0 -
im stuck in my current contract £21 a month with orange til jan, just going to buy the phone from apple and stick the orange sim in it and keep that going and renew it come jan. the tariffs and handsets are expensive for 18-24 months, the end amount you pay is huge.
guy on the phone at orange confirmed i can do this today, but whats a microsim?
can someone explain and confirm that i can just swap my sim from my old phone and use it in new iphone?0 -

A microsim is a sim card about half the size of the one you have now. It may become the new standard.
The one you have now won't fit the iphone 4. Orange told me last week that they won't be sending microsim's out on request, that they'll only supply them to people who buy the 4 from them !
So I'd get back on the phone to them and find out what you're supposed to do ? If not there are guides online on how to cut down the sim you have now to fit (takes about 2 mins and craft knife).0 -

When you get your phone from Apple, get an Orange microsim. You then have 2 options:
1. use the microsim as a template to cut around so you can cut your existing sim down to size
2. ask Orange to transfer your contract and number onto the micro sim you have.
O2 can certainly do option 2, but I don't know whether Orange are offering the same service. In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -

may be best just buying the phone from orange0 -
All set up and ready now(picked up from an O2 store btw)

O2 appear to have a FAR better approach to this than Orange have.... Not happy.0

oooh.... microsim! i want one! i read on the o2 forums that some people had managed to get microsims from o2 stores already, but i rang a couple of the stores closest to me and one said they didn't know when they were getting microsims (i was apparently the first person to tell them that they should have them on Monday!) and the other said they definitely couldn't supply them in Monday because they don't have them
don't know why i'm in such a rush! i don't even have my simplicity sim yet (should arrive on Monday, i think), so i'd have trouble sorting out the sim swap until then anyway!
is it just me, or are the days dragging? lol. i only pre-ordered my iphone on Tuesday, but it feels like it was months ago!!0
