Oh sweety what a stuck up spoilt brat you surely are!!!

I moved out of home at 18 and into a shared house where I paid £80 a week. Previous to that when I was at home I had to pay £60 a week from my £120 earnings a week ... that left me with £60 for the bus to ge to and from college, for my "dinner money", to buy my own toiletries, and any left over was for "luxaries". Normally a trip to the charity shop as I could hardly ever afford the likes of new look etc etc. Even in between jobs my mum still expected money from me. And my mum loved winding me up she was a bad mother and took great joy in that if I left my money on the side in the kitchen for her I hadnt paid it until it was placed in her hand. Even if it was given to dad I still hadn't paid it according to her. Now what is unfair is that once my sister got a job like you she was spoilt brat and didnt have to pay a penny. She even got her college course paid for her and all her course books ,and her dinner etc etc. And she has moved out of home numerous times and is once again back. My father gave her £1k towards a deposit on a flat she used it to go to Australia on a one way ticket. She came back late last year lived with me and my partner for 4 months during which time she only contributed £100 so I kicked her out. She went to live with dad and still has no job and as far as I know has contributed nothing there and in fact takes his money. And he is still stupid enough to support the girl. She is 24 ... I hated paying my rent, more so because my mum was a £$*^£ about it and I also had a very abusive upbringing whilst my sister was and still is miss perfect. I thank God that I had to pay so that I could learn the value of money and be able to save up and support myself and no be some money grabbing miserable spoilt brat.

It is stories like this where you have clearly been treated as the lesser sibling that make me worry that the OP may be genuine.

No its not a wind up - but you've got me wrong! The £150 a month is towards the mortgage and I STILL have to pay a third off all the bills for gas/electricity/council tax and food.. that means I'll have to pay about £100 a week total! She says that she find its a struggle to make ends meet but she's well into her career and I'm just starting.

My friend has a got a flat that costs £80 a week and then she only has bills to pay and thats about £10 a week.

I think shes lying about the bills and I want to see them all before I pay her a penny. I think £50 a week is fair. After all this IS my home too!

It's not your home, its hers. Get over it. I'm going into my second year at Uni (19), I'm living somewhere which costs £375 a month including bills, but I have to pay for all my own food etc because my parents can't afford to help me. I'm grafting at work to make all the extra cash I can, selling off my stuff, and I'm still helping my mom out occasionally financially, and bought loads of clothes for my unborn nephew!. You are totally selfish. Your moms a generous woman for setting it that low.

You think that Council Tax, water rates, gas, electric, insurance, food, TV license, Telephone bills cost £10 per week. What was your degree in? Please tell me you flunked.

If i was your mother i'd throw you out and get a lodger; i'd make more money that way and not have to put up with your attitude. Occassionally i might drop in on you in your unheated £80 a week flat, and ask what you are having with your cold baked beans tonight.... but probably not too often though.

I think you're a little harsh (assuming OP is genuine). I know plenty of people who bring their children up with no concept of the realities of life and then are surprised when they are upset about being asked to pay rent etc.

I don't necessarily think it's so much the money itself; maybe that the OP is at the stage in life where she feels she has to think about a career rather than a job. Having to worry about finances at that point could be quite hurtful. (It's a bit like your parents redecorating your bedroom when you've gone off to Uni).

Maybe OP's mum could have handled it better?
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

What a load of old tosh. If the OP can't handle the harsh realities of life, then theres something wrong with them. You can't expect to leave uni and people not expect you to pay your own way. I won't be going to my parents cap in hand when I finish.
