  • Many thanks,

I think I'll stick it out and see. I don't think I've got anything to lose as if they are on data stream and I can't transfer I can still cancell me account and I'm back to where I started and it's will have only cost me £7.99 for 1 months worth of broadband .(as I got £10 from rpoints for joining)

    Thanks for your help

    Simon

  • Just to update on Virgin - I think virtually all new customers will be on datastream - probably worth checking with them - just along the lines of 'I
believe that If I'm on datastream migrating in future is more difficult ....'

Since Virgin.net have been 100% taken over by NTL they have been putting the majority of their customers on datastream products using NTL as the telco.

The exception would be if there were no (ntl) datastream ports in your local exchange.

Older/long-standing customers will remain on the IPStream product.
  • I got connected to virgin late last night, I will see if I'm on IP or data tonight and report back. Fingers crossed...

    Simon

PS I had a few problems setting up my login with Virgin... they entered my password wrong on my login so I was getting login failures (I got round it be changing my password online which then updated my logon details and it worked fine (I'm not the only one that had problems with this)

    Thanks Simon.
Can you also post where you live as there may be a regional aspect to this IP vs DATA stream thing.

    Thanks again.
Plenty of mistakes, but no regrets. :)
  • I have just migrated to EFH from Virgin. Virgin did drag their feet giving me the MAC number had to phone up 3x. I had some problems activating my Broadband with EFH because of BT and Virgin incompetance, however, I have nothing but praise for the support I have recieved from EFH. They managed to sort things out within a few hours, BT and Virgin couldn't even tell me what the problem was. At EFH I always spoke to the same person, and when she said she'd phone me back in 10 mins, she really did. Virgin and BT could learn a thing or two about customer service from EFH. Can't praise them enough. :D
  • We'll it looks like I'm on datastream... I carried out bt_test@startup_domain check and as far as I know it hasn't worked as my netgear modem/router gives me a failed message. I can't run the bt speed check either so I think this gives the same message - DATASTREAM!!!.

I actually got a reply to my email asking virgin what stream I was going to be on (and if they could put my on IPstream). It said something on the lines of: "Whats your address and phone number and we'll see what we can do" - can they not find this out from my email address??? anyway this was 2 days ago so we'll see if they reply.

But it looks like no migration... unless anyone know of a decent datastream provider?

    thanks all

I'll post if I have any luck

I've not had time to look through this thread completely, so forgive me for my ignorance. I'm surfing the net in my local library and time is limited.

Anyhow, the question I would like to ask is, does anyone know the best comparisons website/phone number for broadband connection.
  • Hi again all...

Now I'm really confused. I've had this reply from Virigin when I asked which STREAM they are using.

    "Hi Simon,

    Our service uses IPstream Broadband.

If you have any other queries, don't hesitate to contact me again.

    Kind regards,

    David

    Virgin.net Technical Support"

So what am I on...??? Virgin say IPSTREAM the quick BT test told me DATA (I think)...

    Perhaps I can switch then??

  • Just to shpow how crap virgin broad band customer service is, they can't even decide which Stream I'm on.

The latest email from them says this:

    "Dear Simon

    Thank you for your email.

As requested I have checked your account and can confirm that you are
    on the following Broadband product:

    BT DataStream Office2000

I hope this helps, if you need any further assistance, please contact
    us again.

    Kind Regards

    Virgin.net Support Team"

I think this guy sounds like he knows more about what he's talking about... So I'm on Crappy non transferrable datastream... :-(

So whats the best datastream provider?
