Judging by all the sad horror stories I hear form all the other ISP customers, I'm glad that I went with EFH. Plug in modem through a splitter, and it all works OK and never stopped.
Effortless connection. Took about 7 working days I think. I bought the wireless modem from Solwise ('brothers' of EFH or something). One advantage of EFH is a fixed IP address.
I would reccommend some form of hardware firewall in your router if you buy one. Some nights I get about 1 hit per min on this. Make sure you turn on encryption and turn off SSID if you are wireless, keeps your bandwidth for you and not your neighbours as well.
For us non-techies, can you explain what a splitter is ? Also how do you connect a hardware firewall ? If you don't want to go wireless, could you point out the essential items needed to go to Broadband. Thanks."0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0 -

a splitter is a microfilter. Basically this splits the normal 'phone' line into a phone line and internet line socket. Obviously the internet one goes into your modem/router and phone line goes into the phone.
The stand-alone hardware firewall may be a bit of an overkill. A router will firewall features should be sufficient when used with a software firewall such as ZoneAlarm.
If you want to go wireless, get a router with wireless capabilities. Plug this wireless router in and either get a laptop that can pick up wireless internet automatically (centrinos) or get a card for it. If you have a desktop, you need to get a inexpensive wireless card as well. Normally you can buy the wireless router and cards together as a bundle.0 -
Hi y'all
I have been reading posts while considering Broadband for such a long time and it's almost impossible to pass up the EFH offer. However, I have mac and the techies there are not so experienced with macs. Has anyone here signed up to them with using a iMac that wouldn't mind discussing their experience in this area or is it just a case of try it and see?
Many thanks.Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0 -
Again post in the Pre sales enquiry at the ELH forum They won't bite your head off but someone using a mac might reply.Or just try it and see.0

Most smaller ISP's don't seem to have a great deal of experience with MAC's. Patr100 is right - post your question in the EFH forum and see what sort of response you get. The EFH support people are excellent so even if they are not MAC experts they will make every effort to sort out any problems.
A reminder for people who are thinking of moving to EFH:
It has a cheap monthly payment (for the 1st 12 months) BUT if you do not already have broadband the startup costs are high. EFH is not the cheapest option for a 'newbie'. Also new customers are generally datastream, migrations are IP stream so another disadvantage for new users.
There are no e-mail accounts included so you will need to purchase one or use a free alternative (like GMail).
IMHO, EFH offers excellent value for migrations - that's why I chose them. I would have looked elsewhere if I wasn't migrating.0 -
im am currently with AOL broadband (512k), my conract is ending next month. will EFH allow me to use the same modem so that i wont need to pay the connection fee??0

you dont need to pay the connection fee again, you just have to pay the 'setup fee' of £35.24 to Ehf for migration. You can still use the same hardware yes0 -
I am looking to migrate to EFH. Any chance the fee of £35 can be reduced or eliminated? Do they ever do any promotions etc? I currently pay £15 for my 512 uncapped and if i went for the same at EFH it will take me 7 months to breakeven!!
Do they have a referral programme? Will it make sense for any existing user to refer me?0 -
