A facelift is always nice, but the new layout wastes a lot of space, meaning you have to move more to get to the same information.

Where exactly is it wasting a lot of space? as the demonstration i posted last night showed, there is not a lot of differance, yes the old style post on post is a litte smaller, but not by much????

I hated it at first but much happier now. It'll be the only option after a while so best to get used to it now! Well done MSE!!

I like it. It's nice and uncluttered and fun.

    Thanks all at MSE.
  • I like it, it's more modern and trendy looking and may attract new users who really need to be here, even more. Us old schoolers will just get used to it!

The thanks button still isn't working properly. When you press it, it disappears but when you go back on the thread it's there again. Will this be getting fixed?

Hmmm, i may have remembered the $ price, not £, but i still think its a con

Depends how that pans out, but an Indefinite software license means jack if you have to pay for the next 'new' upgrade, we shall see
I also saved £16 by paying via paypal in US$ and not pounds sterling, which would have been £125. There is no obligation to move to vB5 when it appears, but if the stretch that vB3 lasted for is anything to go by, that won't be until 2014 at the earliest anyway. Even then, I'd wait until a few patches have been released to iron out the bugs of 5.0.1.

That said, now is the ideal time to move to 4.0.3 Martin!

One feature I miss is the new posts icon that was on the index on the right hand side of the forum name. That way you could tell if a forum had new posts made in it since your last visit. Now you cant tell unless you enter the forum itself and if you follow multiple forums, that can be time consuming as well as generating extra load on the server.

Fermi, you are ace - didn't know about that extension, will have to try it in FF at home!

Unfortunately, I *have* to use IE at work (), so I can't apply the same solution here, and therefore couldn't give the new interface a fair crack even just over lunchtime because the brighter colours (thanks for those side by side screenshots, bat-out-of-hell, they show the difference perfectly) were giving me eyestrain and a headache.

I work with computers all day every day in my job (specialising in web collaboration interface design), and rarely have that kind of reaction to a site, so I'm sticking to the reading-friendly V1 for the foreseeable future.
