I hope MSE doesn't change to text to the awful grey text that some sites use now. The grey's difficult for me to read.

    .

I agree, but it is personal, I prefer a toned down background, and maybe just a slightly of black text to take the edge off.

But everyone’s eyesight is different; I am sensitive to light for example.

The happy medium is the hard bit to achieve

Actually its not just eyesight - monitor is key. The site looks completely different on my laptop and when i connect it to my monitor x

I think a white background for black text is fine, the BBC use it, almost all sites use it.
The BBC news stories use a white that's closer to the V1 MSE post background white. No problem for me to read either of those.

The V2 style here, though, is some of the toughest text to read that I've seen for a while, with the very bright white the most likely cause. Seems to be more like staring into the sun white than paper white. Though the depth of the black might also be part of it.

Correct, white is white, and black is black, not unless every display performs the same and is set up the same way.

Wich is the point, that has been made before, by fermi, and me, you have version one and two, it would be easy to add three and four with toned down backgrounds/text or both, its only a change in the CSS file to do so.

Look at it this way, a version to view in daylight, and one at night with the lights of, even on the same screen, the site, or any site, looks differant due to the change in background light for example.

I love the nice clean look of the new site but i`m still finding my way around it.

Does anyone know where to find the calendar where the birthdays are noted in the new version please? I have to switch back to see the calendar link near the old user cp link.

    Thanks

It's not working now. Honestly it was there before! You saw both versions.

You're right there's no reason we can't do that - except its wrong to call it a small change - it take a lot of time to get these things right and huge numbers of hours. It is not something i'm batting off - just there's a huge amount of priorities ahead of that.

The background on both is #FFFFFF, which is pure white, does the old version of mse not use black text? i thought it did, off for a gander:D
