Work have annoyed me lots today, they keep making rude and unprofessional comments and I've just had enough so my fingers are very tightly crossed even though I'm not holding out much hope
I can't help you with this bit, I'm afraid - I'm quite confrontational in these situations, but then I'm a big boy, and I can appreciate it might be different if you're smaller, or a girl.
Can you tell us what they're saying (the gist?). Also, keep hitting the job market, but make sure you have solid reasons for moving about if that's what your CV reflects. Nobody wants to employ someone who will leave in 3 months.

Just comments. For example the consultant got his brand new shiny company car delivered today so everyone went out to ooh and aah it so I stayed and managed the calls because in all honesty its a bit of a sore subject that they have managed to arrange that whereas my bonus is still nowhere to be seen.

So, the big boss walked in and said 'go show sara your car now so she doesnt feel left out' and walked off laughing.

I was very angry at that because he knows damn well I'm still waiting for my bonus.

But, trying not to let it all get to my head as its friday afternoon, I have 20 minutes left then off for the whole weekend.

And the OH is taking me out for dinner tonight somewhere secret to try and cheer me up so at least I can go home and get dolled up with some wine tonight to make work seem less stressful :)

Happy weekend to you all!!! :)

If I were you I would write a formal letter of grievance asking when your bonus money is going to be sorted out and outline your main concerns - lack of professionalism etc.

If you feel you are complaining about the Big Boss man then send it to your HR department. They are duty bound to investigate any formal grievances and the person doing the investigation will be someone not involved in the process so far.

Are you in a union? Even if you are not, you could put into your letter: "After following union advice..." this should put the wind up them and you are not technically telling porkies because it is what a union would advise you to do and at no point are you telling them that you are, or are not in this case, a member of a union.

Is the bonus mentioned in your contract? If it is then tell them they are not fulfilling their side of the contract and if this persists you will be seeking legal advice.

    Hope this helps.

So the big boss is just as bad as the little boss. What a spiteful little turd he is. You're better than them, Sara, miles better. Take your skills somewhere they'll be appreciated. And good luck :)
  • Here is my advice, not sure if it is any good but what I would do in this situation
Firstly, I'd try and get the bonus before I announce that I'm leaving. Really it should be backdated and if this has been going on for 4 months then it might be a considerable amount, however as soon as you announce you're leaving they wont give it to you.
I'd maybe lie a little and email the Big Boss or maybe HR (depending on how helpful they are) with a bit of a sob story, asking if they have a rough estimate of how much your bonus is going to be and could they possibly give you a small amount of it each month (£50 to £100 maybe?) to just tide you over until they sort it out as you are really struggling financially as *insert sob story here (boiler broke and children sobbing hysterically each night and refuse to get in cold bath etc)*
Hopefully this would ring alarm bells that you really DO need the bonus and motivate them to do something as money worries would mean that your mind is elsewhere, not focused on the job. Would also show that you're not going to just forget about it.
    Just a suggestion

TRUE. And a good point. Email HR about this as a matter of urgency (Monday morning). Outline that this has been promised to you 4 MONTHS ago, you were told it was going to be backdated, but money is now becoming tight.

DON'T DO THIS. If you ask for a "little bit", and they give you £50 per month extra, that'll be the end of it. Its all yours, and you're entitled to it. Whats your HR department like? Are they any good? Efficient? Whatever they are, compose a mail (today? in notepad?) and take it in with you. Email the MOST SENIOR HR PERSON YOU CAN THINK OF. Say something like "Sorry if this is the wrong person to mail, but...".

This is good for 2 reasons.
    1) They'll direct it to the most relevant HR team member, or even deal with it themselves!
    2) it'll be on that senior HR person's radar.

Outline in a very polite way that you've been promised a bonus structure on B]date[/B date by B]DonkeyCock[/B, they have told you repeatedly that it was going to be sorted out, but it has been 4 months, and nobody is responsive to your requests. You have sponed to B]Manager[/B and B]bigboss[/B and nothing has come of it. You really do need this money, and want to know how to go about claiming backdated bonus pay from B]date[/B.

That will get you some hard and fast answers, your BigBoss or manager may get a call from HR telling them to sort it out, and you'll get a reply outlining what has been done. They may tell you that you cannot claim backdated bonuses. That might motivate you to change jobs. When do you find out about the really-good job?

Thanks again for all the replies! This matter is really annoying me.

The only problem is... we dont have a HR department.

It is a very small office, we have 2 people who handle all our accounts and payroll staff etc, then there is 1 consultant, 1 general manager (basically senior consultant), 1 office manger (who is the annoying one who doesnt talk to big boss!) and then there is the big boss.

I do need this money quite soon because I am moving to a new flat in a couple of weeks and also got a holiday to save up for in September so all this money will come in really handy!

I'm not entirely sure that its in my contract because it is a basic contract which is for all staff (including consultants) so it mentions commisions and company car's etc which I'm not entitled to.

However, my official offer letter did mention that after my 3 month trial a bonus structure would be put in place... I suppose if things really dont progress I can use that letter against them.

If I worked in a larger company, then things would be much easier as I could go to different departments but because its so small, I only have limited people I can go to.

This (among many other reasons) is why I want to get out of recruitment and into HR, so I can work my way up to HR Manager and prevent situations like this!

Bug the BigBoss again today about your bonus structure. If he says "I'll get it sorted for you" ask him if he has a timescale for resolving the issue. "Do you know roughly when it might get done? I quite relying on this extra money...."
Don't let him fob you off with out a date, or timeframe ("By the end of the week, it will be done"). If he says "Soon" then counter by saying your official job offer outlined this would be sorted at the three month interval, "which goes against what {your} contract states".

I know you'll feel akward talking to him about this, we're all trained and conditioned to believe that we should count ourselves lucky if we HAVE a job, lete alone ask for more. But thats not the case. You're not asking for "more". You're asking for what you were promised, in writing. You're asking for what you're owed. You're asking for (arguably) what may have drawn you to this job over another in the first place.

Er...an office of 6 and 2 of them (at least) have new company cars? Is there a bigger picture I'm missing here? Are you a satellite office for a larger company?
