There is a reception issue. I know the post refers to the Legend, but it also applys to the Desire if you read through.

I'd think you'll get a few replies saying the worst thing about it is, its not an iPhone !0

The worst omission I have found (and it is Android OS, not the Desire specifically), is the lack of proxy support on WiFi networks.
Many corporate environments, universities etc., require internet access to go via their proxy servers, however Android itself has no support (or even third-party add-ons) that allow you to set a wi-fi proxy, making Android phones pretty useless in many corporate environments (unless you're happy to incur the data charges... see the thread on Vodafones 500MB usage limit for what that's going to cost you now!)
You can follow the very unhappy people on the lack of proxy setting issue here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=12730 -

Since most people seem to have chosen a Desire in preference to an iPhone that's not really very likely is it?
Perosnally I'd say the worst thing is that apps are stored in the phone's internal memory not on the SD Card. But that is a feature of Android and is due to be changed in the next release.
You can also get around it by rooting the phone I believe.
It's a fairly minor issue though as you can still fit a lot of apps in the phone's memory.
Other than that I can't think of anything as the proxy server issue doesn't affect me luckily.
If you have a look here it's a Desire specific forum and people on there have had various issues but I've not experienced them with mine. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -

The new version of Android (2.2) fixes the app space issue - they'll be installed to the SD card instead of internal memory.
I don't know if it will fix the lack of proxy support - I can't use by uni's wifi atm. We'll have to wait and see.
2.2 might be released today, or at least we should find out lots of details about it. Google I/O starts in a couple of hours.0 -
What does it mean by proxy support? Does that mean i cant use my home broadband, dont get my desire till 25th0

You can use your home broadband, I can also use the WiFi access point at work. It's only in ceratin cases you need proxy support. I suspect for most people it's not going to be a problem. It's my problem, it's my problem

More then not abtaining a signal and therefore not in the position to use it as a 'errrr' phone ?
It appears there are some pretty irate people with an HTC desire on vodafone who get diddly squat reception. Pretty much like that Nokia 97 disaster last year ( another so called iphone winner that got - zero bars - of signal while standing under the transmitter.
I would have to place that has the worst omission for a phone ?0
