Anything bad about Htc desire

If you want to you can avoid doing any customisation and then all you need to do is tap the triangle in a circle button and there are all your apps, similar to an iPhone.
Me neither. It isn't the exact same as the iPhone but as you say it isn't the most complex device to use- I found it easy to use without any customisation, good amount of apps too, but the power of the device is getting it customised to suit!0 -
I'd agree with that. Easy to use for a novice user but very easy to customise if that's what you want. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends

This is my first smartphone, mainly because I refused to be drawn into paying the best part of £1000 to own an iPhone. The Desire is costing me just over a third of that thanks to T-mobile. I'm certainly not 'techy' but I find this phone very very easy to use. Yes, there are things I don't like, but overall it's a great bit of kit. My nephew has had three iPhones now, and he kept telling me "Just get an iPhone or you'll only be disappointed." After playing with my Desire for a bit he was trying very hard not to show how impressed he was with it.0

The OLED screen is fairly poor in direct sunlight, but ramping up the backlight seems to help. It's usable, put it that way.
The only downside to the phone is the keyboard is nowhere near as good as that of the iPhone. However, 2.2 is apparently addressing this as well!
Cheers! i thought that might be the case.btw im guessing ramping up the brightness wont help the battery consumption
Anyway i think super amoled will be the way forward  looks like it covers all the bases.0 -
Have to disagree with you on that one, I think ex-iPhoneites really struggle when moving to Android because it isn't designed to be pick up and go. It is such a powerful piece of hardware there is not simply one icon and you load up an app.
Yes there is, if you have the app on your home screen. But even if you don't, it's only two presses. I'd hope most users could master that with practice? There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.

Obviously that's too complicated for iPhone owners! :rotfl:It's my problem, it's my problem

I compared an iphone and Desire in bright sunlight today - iphone much better.
Battery life is getting better but still poor. (and I use juicedefender)
Those gripes apart it a brilliant phone and would not (at present) change it0 -
i have had the 2 htc desire phones since the 11th of may. over all i am happy with the phones and also happy with the decision not to buy the iphone instead of the desire.
some diehard apple / iphone users i know are buying their children desires and legends!
anyway it is just a phone and in a little time there will be much better phones if not already (htc incredible is apparently better and already available in usa, the evo 4g is soon to be launched i think in usa).
things i dont like about the phone- screen isnt great in sunlight but thats ok for me as i can angle the phone so that the glare is less
- speaker isnt that great both in terms of volume and quality but is ok for general use
- no second microphone like the nexus one and no noise cancellation feature like the nexus one
- google search doesnt support voice search like some other phones. but may be possible with some modifications i think, although havent tried those options yet as have been busy otherwise
- battery life is a bummer. hope it improves with discharges and recharging a few times. heard elsewhere that the 3g watchdog app might be eating into the battery and some have reported better battery times after deleting that app. have just deleted mine but cant verify whether it is better yet. a;though i still have netcounter app and dont know if that has similar issues wrt battery. regular high intensity phone users / travellers will need car charger / dual battery charger or extended batteries etc
- cant change sim card or memory card without removing the battery
- i am told the htc desire isnt compatible with usa 3g bands!!! and will be stuck with usa 2g networks if you frequently travel there, then you might face the 2g issue with voice calls getting diverted to voicemail if apps are using the data connection. although i havent checked the usa 3g issue myself
- skype on 3 network and all android phones only works on 3g and not on wifi unlike on other operating systems where skype works even on wifi. this will be important when abroad / roaming if one doesnt want to incur high roaming charges and want to use free wifi for skype etc. although one could use fring etc but i am told call quality isnt as good as skype.
- proxy server issue isnt supported i am told, although i havent needed to use this option but this should be basic feature available in all internet access devices i guess if such devices need to be used at work. hopefully this issue will be sorted in the 2.2 update
- the wifi / bluetooth / gps / ringer toggle switches should have been available as a default option on one of the screens and not needed to be downloaded from the market
- my wife found it a bit daunting at first with so many features. i dont think she has bothered to explore them. but i think she likes the camera and video recorder and direct upload feature to face book etc from camera and she likes the weather app i guess. she isnt very fond of the battery draining quickly though
- screen is brilliant and much better than on an iphone 3gs
- live wall papers are impressive, especially the water feature with leave and ripples etc which ripple to touch
- web browsing is much faster than the iphone
- flash support is available
- gmail app is great
- yahoo mobile website is good for accessing email
- many many apps are free and good
- my 20 month old child is quickly figuring out which buttons to press in some finger painting apps like the magic marker app / animal sounds app / finger painting app etc
- multitasking
- google navigation is brilliant. i find the voice directions accurate and names even the small roads which even my tomtom 703T with 8m old maps cant beat. it is more accurate than the tomtom i feel but doesnt have active traffic diverts etc
- google goggles. show that to iphone users and watch them hunt for it on the itunes store and give up when they cant find it!
- i like the htc sense inteface and pinch and zoom to change screens etc
- 2.2 froyo update round the corner for desire as per htc. apparently this update makes the phone even faster although i am extremely happy with the browsing speeds and have decided i might not need a ultrlight laptop now!

It does seem to be a poor design that you have to remove the battery to change the SIM card or memoy card but then my old Nokia was the same. Still, ask an iPhone owner to show you how they change the memory card on their phone.

Do they remove the battery first?
