BUT - reception is fine for me and millions of others too. I am not sure this is a generally recognised problem with the desire! ( I am aware of discussion an various forums but these must involve only an unlucky few I think)

More then not abtaining a signal and therefore not in the position to use it as a 'errrr' phone ?

It appears there are some pretty irate people with an HTC desire on vodafone who get diddly squat reception. Pretty much like that Nokia 97 disaster last year ( another so called iphone winner that got - zero bars - of signal while standing under the transmitter.

I would have to place that has the worst omission for a phone ?

2.2 might be released today, or at least we should find out lots of details about it. Google I/O starts in a couple of hours.

wont htc have to fiddle with it before pushing it out due to sense?

Well the clue is in the words "the worst omission I have found..." , as it hasn't been an issue for me, and I haven't noticed any reception problems. Maybe I've been lucky! :)

Its hardly a widespread problem. The iphone section of the vodafone eforum is littered with people have similar issues... indeed the whole of the internet is.

As for the Desire, its a brilliant phone - hence why techradar call it the best phone in the world today.

So by the looks of things the iPhone 4g is going to see if it can be called the Desire killer.

Yes. And theres no guarantee they will engineer it. They may just leave it at 2.1. You *MAY* be able to get it to 2.2 by removing the HTC layers.

If the skin then needs to be customised by a carrier that has to happen too.

Given the Hero upgrade to 2.0 from 1.6 is taking it's time I'd suggest you plan on it being left at 2.1 for the forseeable future.

I don't know if this is a problem for the Desire but it is for my Android driven Hero. Unless you sign in to your google account during the initial set up, you will have to hard reset your phone to get it done later on. Without signing in you can't access the android market. The reset gets rid of everything which normally is not a problem for me but I don't know of any way to back up my text messages. Due to this inconvenience I have not signed in to google.
Again I don't know if this is a phone of software issue and it may not affect the Desire.

Had my Desire for 1.5 months now. Best phone in the world.

Not experienced any of the issues mentioned above but am aware of them, always been a little wary of issues posted in forums as there are many more people like me that dont post with the subject line "I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH MY PHONE, IN FACT ITS BETTER THAN I COULD HAVE HOPED" or "iPhone OWNERS KEEP GIVING ME FUNNY LOOKS"

    You wont regret buying it.

Oh, as for 2.2 Froyo coming to Desire, HTC have already expressed that they are focussing on their flagship phones - Desire, EVO, Incredible - and plan to have them running 2.2 H2 2010. That could mean a few weeks or December but if you are tech savy then there should very soon be "cooked" versions of 2.2 without (maybe) the Sense interface. Lots of info on places like XDA Developers and Modaco.

Had mine now for 2 weeks, and love it to pieces, have had to replace the handset, but that was a problem that Orange created, CPW replaced it no problem.

Mine is set up to work off the router when I am at home.

Only problem I have found is that I can't put it down, i have to keep playing with it. Oh and a few total run downs and full charges have sorted out the battery life, now getting a couple of days out of it.

    .

Thats true of everything and anything on forums. Take the current Vodafone debate over the unlimited internet farce.

Scanning the net gives you the impression that the whole world is out to get Vodafone. In reality about less then 0.0004% of its customers are moaning about the change in Vodafones T&C's.

Hence why Vodafone can put there hands over their ears and sing 'la la I cant hear you'. Because it's not going to effect them one tiny little bit.

Regarding the Desire issue with signal reception. I dont mind taking the risk of getting a dud handset providing the company I bought it from had a good track record in customer services.

But; reading through the forums give the impression that every company offering any service should be avoided. Sometimes consumer forums can be self defeating.
