I see that this swype mod is a further mod of the cyanogen mod. I thought the cyanogen mod and the jonasl mod were the same. Or am I wrong.

Just want to install one mod that gives me voice input. In what way is anyone of them better than the others. Just hoping someone has already tried them and can give some feedback so that I can install just one of the better ones. If the installation causes problems is it possible to delete the mod and revert to old keyboard.

Bubblesmoney if you just want voice to text, follwo the instructions I gave earlier. It changes nothing else on the phone and works a treat. With those instructions it gives you a choice of Android or HTC keyboards. Persoanlyl I kept the HTC one.

Thanks BillScarab. Those apps are amazing. My iPhone owning missus is so freaking jealous. :D

Have just come across another problem with my HTC Hero and am wondering if the Android Desire has it too.
Basically when I call an organisation which asks you to press the * or # key because at some point you need to use the touch keypad, i.e. paying a bill or selecting a service etc I find no way to conjure up the keypad while in the middle of a call. Is this possible for android phones and if so, how?

Get yourself a screen protector then.

    A-hahahahaha :D

    I intend getting something.

I'm enjoying the machine - I'm not a techy geek by any stretch but feel I'm getting somewhere with it.

Wish that the 'Market' for the apps had more subsections as you end up in an enormous list of, say, sport apps with no distinctions.

That crossed my mind too. On my old Nokia you had to 'cancel' to effectively delete the number called to give yourself options. I just stared at the handset for a moment and gave up!
  • HTC desire, touchscreen button to the left of "call" brings up the numeric keypad. No issues with * or #. :)

    Yes it does.

How can i set that up to auto go onto Wi-Fi when its in Range?

I love my Desire its the best phone ive ever had but i do have just one problem with it and that is when i turn the phone off it just comes up with message saying powering off and does not turn off so after a while i have to take the Batt out.

Any ideas on why it does that?

It does that if there is an app hanging and not shutting down properly. If you leave it long enough it will power off. Another option is to kill any apps if you have a Task Killer on your phone.

What do you like about it? What are the advantages?

I find it so much quicker and easier, i wasnt keen on the standard keyboard so went and paid for 'better keyboard' which was an improvement, but since i've been using swype i dont think i could ever go back to using a normal phone keypad.

bubblesmoney - you've lost me there, i had an old version of swype that used to throw up an error in landscape mode, this one doesnt do that and also has a different skin. Never really used the voice input, i dont like everyone around me knowing what i'm sending ;)
