  • I usually just lurk on this thread but had to mention this one from ours toay, the title was 'poor family requires free hand me downs':

hi we are seeking anything modern a big thin telly, a large black floor
rug, and a working computer and screen would be nice, and some nice
    matching saucepans

I wouldn't mind matching saucepans and a 'big thin telly' too but beggars can't be choosers! (Well so I thought anyway!!)
If I could cheat, I'd skip to the end and decide if it's worth going through with
    :D
  • Blimey! We aren't exactly running with cash but I wouldn't describe us as a 'poor family', and yet we only have an old fashioned big thick TV (that came off freecycle :-)) and non-matching everything in the kitchen - never mind the saucepans, you are lucky to find 2 plates or cups that match. We've still got loads of hand me downs, second hand furniture, and new furniture we both bought separatey over the years, so our house style is somewhat eclectic, I'd like a nice matching living room one day but I wouldn't go begging for it.

Some people! Moon on a stick indeed. I think they feel horribly deprived, lol.

Our local group seems quite good.

I just posted my first offer on Freecycle and have been inundated with replies.

I was just wondering if anyone has offered anything how did you choose who to give your item to? I am going to give it to a charity but there are at least 10 of those and most are offering to collect. How shall I choose the most deserving recipient?

I delete and rude/cheeky/grasping/sob stories!! I know that sounds harsh but genuine emails stand out, I wouldnt rely on someone saying they are a charity unless they can prove it-I offered an old but fully working pc monitor a couple of years ago when I upgraded to a laptop and had one from a day centre saying how much use it would be to them until they realised it wasnt a flatscreen then suddenly I heard no more!! On the whole though my local one is good and I've given and taken a few things from there!

    Wanted: Shotgun/s Xxxxxxx area
Unusual this however nothing ventured etc. does anyone have a small bore shotgun they no longer want (.410 or 20 gauge) I want to teach my wife to shoot but my 21 gauges are too heavy and the recoil is too much. Is there anyone who has a surplus gun I can have.....

    *chin on the floor

Fair does to the mod, he pulled that post within minutes.
  • My OH had several boxes of computer mags and advetised them on freecycle, got a reply from someone who said she could use them as she taught computers but had no way of collecting them so OH made arrangements to deliver them (I was a bit cheesed he hadnt even asked and I'm the one who drives) but it wasnt that far away anyway so went ahead and delivered them 6 heavy boxes we were met in the street by a guy who never spoke once just grunted at us and she never even came out to say thanks, so sorry but that is the last time I will be delivering anything it costs nothing to be nice! or say thanks
On the countdown mortgage will be paid off this year if I keep paying bit extra fingers crossed fully paid out by July :j

Had a few people looking for "chester drawers" recently.
  • well that's an improvement on the hundreds of people who are looking for just "draws". I feel like offering them some DRAWERS and a dictionary instead......

I'm disappointed that we haven't had a request for a 'Frig Frezzer' lately, although chester draws have appeared on mine too!

Sigh... we've got the Nintendo DS brigade joining OUR list from the next city across now to post the sobby wanted ads - so two city's worth of heartrending tales of children cradling games with nothing to play it on. I await the PS2 wanting premature babies next (not joking on that one - it was a reply to an offered I once got).
