This one just came up - I'm biting my tongue because I really really want to let rip.We are moving to our first house and as we also have a baby due just before we move, our finances are tight. We would be extremely grateful if anybody would consider gifting us any of the following items (or offering advice on where we could buy something suitable second hand).
We are going to need a washing machine, a table suitable for 3 chairs and 2 highchairs (4-6 seats is as large as we will be able to fit in), a dishwasher (a luxury I know but our boys will be 3, 1 and newborn), a desk in a cupboard (my husband works from home sometimes and we'll be giving away our desk and chair due to lack of space), a set of deep drawers or storage solution for a 1 year olds clothes and stackable storage solution for toys.
Washing machine - pushing it - might get lucky
Table with very specific requirements - starting to sound a tad excessive here now
A dishwasher as a luxury - added points for chucking in the kiddie so I need stuff card here.
A desk in a cupboard - ever heard beggars can't be choosers... my cupboard desk is exactly the same size as my husband's non-cuoboard one
"Stackable storage solution" - by this point steam was coming out of my ears and I really want to let rip.
Sick to death of this - was "I want a black sofa" earlier today. "I want my entire house furnished with luxury items which I apparently have none of despite having two other children".
I know shy bairns get nowt as my mother would say - but the sheer presumptousness of that one really really got my goat, and normally I'm just bemused by the greedy asks.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
"Wanted: Bees - xxxxxxx
I found a good home for my ducks and geese through freecycle so I thought I would give this new request a try. Sadly, my colony of bees perished this Winter probably because it was too small, they had plenty of honey and were in a sheltered spot. Has anyone got some bees they want a new home for?...I would be delighted to collect.I have plenty of equipment."
The kind of person who trades animals on fc should not be trusted with a dead wasp.0 -
Love the bees one - what it basically boils down to is "Hi, I killed my last lot of bees but I think I know where I went wrong now - has anyone got any spare I can try again with? I got bored with the ducks and geese so gave them away - this is the new fad."Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0

at least they wouldn't need delivering - just give the lead one a map off google maps and they could fly there themselves.Hate and I do mean Hate my apple Mac Computer - wish I'd never bought the thing
Do little and often
Please stop using the word "of" when you actually mean "have" - it's damned annoying :mad:0 -
On the bottom of TWO requests, both pleading poverty, for an item I'm giving away...

Had they just asked politely to be considered, they wouldn't be assigned to the spam folder right now...import this0 -

I'm a bit bemuse by this post.
Apart from the fact the the person criticised does actually have the sense to ask if anyone has advice on where to buy the items second-had, what is wrong with telling people what you need?
I've only given away a few things on FC but I was glad to be able to and I would not like to think that people were being put off by being ridiculed for doing no more than that for which the service is designed.
Before FC came along I've had to dump perfectly good equipment (Fridge Freezer, washing machine, and microwave, all in 100% working order and not tatty), when I moved abroad for a while. I would have been delighted to know that there was someone who could make good use of them
Here is someone who needs certain items and is realistic enough to be prepared to buy them secondhand (or presumably save up for them) if she can't get them on FC.
I really can't see the point of having the system if people are going to be criticised for using it.
Or do you think it should be limited to old Primark clothing and jam-jars?There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

as a side point, i hate hate hate that signature on my emails
i've only just learned how to take it off, but i felt really awkward sending an email with 'Sent from my iPhone' to people, incase they thought it was me typing it inhelpful tips
it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
their - 'owned by them'
they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)0
