That list of rules is from freecycle mods manual. I was a mod on my local group and co-owner for a few years and we sent that exact admin out ourselves, shame none of the members took notice and are now even worse  Glad i left as a mod!!If google doesn't know it, how should i?0

Our local groups have banned any live animals / pets ads.
I recently posted a wanted add on our local freegle and wrote:
"WANTED: Working Sky+ (plus) box
Hi
Our Sky+ box has a fault and we need to replace it (I dont have insurance and cant afford a new one), does anyone have one they no longer need please? Can collect most days and times. Please email if you can help.
Many thanks & best wishes"
I got a reply from the moderator saying
"Please don't ask for expensive or valuable items. Freegle is about making use of things destined for the tip, and the things you're asking for don't fall in to that category.
Regards Moderator"
Which I responded to by saying
"Hi I am very sorry for the mistake however I feel I am being singled out as there have been quite a few requests for both Freeview and Sky boxes since the digital switchover, one you have also just approaved from another person! I was asking to prevent it going to landfill. I am now very upset as I dont often request via the service yet I often see posts from people for the more expensive of items they have no chance of getting!
Appologies again. Best wishes."
And got the reply
"Sorry to have upset you, and yes, it was a bit "salt in the wound" to have another Sky box request so soon after yours. The difference is that Sky boxes and freeview are offered fairly commonly, but you were asking for a Sky Plus box, which I understand is a different and far more sophisticated and expensive item than an ordinary Sky box.
I should just also explain that it is not simply the cost of an item that dictates whether a "wanted" is allowed. It is also a matter of its desirability. Someone might ask for a cb radio, for example, which I believe is quite an expensive item. But as not that many people would want one, it is allowed. Whereas a "wanted" for a Nintendo Wii, which would cost well under £200 but which most of us would be glad to own, would not be allowed.
I hope you understand and that we have not hurt your feelings too much.
Regards"
So I replied back saying
"Hi
Thank you for the reply. You haven#t hurt my feelings I was just a bit miffed thats all and now understand your reason as it was explained more clearly on challenging your decision.
The Sky+ replacement box costs £49 to someone like me who is currenty a Sky customer (as per the Sky website today as I checked to see if I wasn't pushing my luck before requesting one earlier). If I were to try and ask for a DVD recorder AND a Standard Sky box would this be acceptable? I would see it as greedy and possibly useless to my requirements.
Just to warn you I think you will soon be seeing more requests for Sky+ boxes due to the old standard Sky boxes not being available for much longer as Sky have now advanced and are offering HD boxes and therefor offering Sky+ as their standard box. I hope you don't take this email the wrong way but I just wanted to see what was acceptable for future reference. Many thanks and best wishes"
My message never did get approved so I posted it on another local freecycle group which was approved and I got a working Sky+ box including leads and freeview card within the hour!Failure is only someone elses judgement.
Without change there would be no butterflies.
If its important to you, you'll find a way - if not, you'll find an excuse ! ~ Easy to say when you take money out of the equation!

I have just responded to someone offering a Shoulder of Pork with Sage stuffing lol, sounds yummy, will do for tea tomorrow. Never been successful in responding to posts so fingers crossed, lol.0 -
Yes i do agree that people seem to think that they are going to get something for nothing a bit too much.....
but at the same time if you don't ask.......
And you just might!!
So really if it costs nothing to ask, even if its a one in a million chance that someone will give you what you want- what do you have to lose?:silenced:They Were Up In Arms wrote: »I think tabskitten is a crying, walking, sleeping, talking, living troll :cool:0 -

Just out of curiousity, does anybody know how you can 'leave' freecycle without having the original password etc...?? my Mother cant remember them from when she joined and the e mails fill the inbox??
Make sure you supply the email address which is the one registered with that group so the mods can find her. It really is easy for them to do this.Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0 -

I've just put more books up on offer, I doubt whether there will be any takers though. I offered CD players and a DVD box earlier in the week and had no takers so had to charity shop them even though they are not keen on electrical items.
I think my area must be just too affluent.
EDIT: Just checking freegle for any responses to my ad and someone is asking for a dighy or small boat by tomorrow as they fancy going sailing.
