I just feel people try to abuse any offerer's goodwill. they are getting something for FREE, should be up to 'wantee' to arrange transport!

Lots of people on ours who are transportless put wanteds with comments like "I can collect within the city transport ring" or "I'll need a couple of days to arrange someone to give me a lift to pick it up" - got a lot of time for them because at least they're prepared to make the effort (and people are more inclined to read and think "oh I'm just outside the transport network" - I'll drop it off for them)... rather than the daily "I need a tumble drier - must be able to deliver" ones. They're the sort that get people's backs up really.

And on the tumble drier one - I offered one, posted it on the group and got a REALLY snotty email from someone "I posted a wanted for one of these three weeks ago and got no replies (another of the "must deliver - gimme it" brigade) why are you offering it to the group and it should just be given to me"... and it went on and on and on. Surprisingly - she's still tumble drier-less.

  • ooh I've got an umble dryer! It's attached to a pole at the back of my house and ends at a pole down the garden. I use plastic pegs on mine! :D

I'm growing increasingly annoyed with it to be honest - it's not the requests - its the incessant requests from people who just seem to think the group is under some obligation to underpin and provide for their entire lives.

But aren't these websites just a reflection of society? Me! Me! Me! Want! Want! Want! Now! Now! Now! It's how the younger generation are brought up to expect everything on a plate.

On my group somebody's just asked if anyone wants a used potty... :/

I would have had a potty - give it a good clean with a splash of bleach and 'bob's your uncle' :)

I regularly offer to deliver as I know that for some people transport is a major issue. I will generally only offer to deliver to my postcode and the neighbouring one which I am in regularly as it is where the in-laws live amongst other things - but I still get asked to deliver outside that area - never politely just I live here I need it delivered

Give an inch to some people and they take a mile
  • We had one on ours saying a brother was moving into a flat and so needed so "anything he might need, most in need of large items, cooker, fridge freezer, double bed base as well as smaller items, microwave, iron, ironing board etc".

Surprised they didn't ask for the first month's rent as well. If they don't get any answers will there be a bloke sitting in a totally empty flat eating a tin of cold beans? I know some people are hard up but it seems a bit much to ask for a home to be kitted out.

the small basic ones there's only point in getting if its very local (as can buy in poundshop). however someone on mine today offered the larger style Thomas Tank ones which I just paid £12 (RRP £16) for!! that would be a bargain for whoever gets it.
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:

No thats the reason I left our freecycle too many people taking the !!!!. Anything I have now gets sold, charity shop or dump

Can you not just scan through the people that are complete d***s asking for things like a brand new car with a full tank of fuel. I'm pretty sure they don't cause a problem unless you're offering something. I have a scroll wheel on my mouse and i just scan straight past the dreamers. We should big up sites/forums like that as without them i would never have been able to afford my well known vacuum cleaner after my old one went kaboom!
  • I have to use public transport, so always say that I am interested as long as they are not too far from one of the bus routes. I would never dream of asking for delivery (and so miss out on a lot of stuff I could really do with), although a couple of times some lovely people have offered to drop stuff off as they pass nearby. I always have something small to offer them such as a bouquet of herbs from my garden or something recently baked if that's possible as a thankyou - can't afford much, but I hope that the thought will count!
Mind you, I have a big old shopping trolley (and I mean old, I bought it in the eighties!!), and am willing to spend a whole evening travelling and waiting (and getting rained on!!), after all, if I didn't do that, I couldn't afford to buy it :)
Saying that, on the occasion that I have something small to offer, I do sometimes say that I can hand it over if they work town centre.
