Subject Weeding Dress
Location
Description I am looking for a wedding dress in size 8, but I will go upto a 12 as I know someone who can take it in. It doesn't matter if it's plain, I prefer it so I can make it my own.
Message me if you can help."
Guess it would be best in a dark colour so it didn't show the mud (!)You never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0 -

No rule about not requesting delivery!0 -

You still need boots on a dry slope, skis don't clip into trainers properly. Jackets harder to explain. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

Because some people cannot drive, do not have cars and have no public transport available, god forbid that they may even be disabled and unable to!
Someone giving something may even go right past their door daily so it is not a problem to drop something off. Someone may be hanging onto a wedding dress, because we do not like to just throw these away and when seeing someone else wanting to get married and in need of a dress - and willing to use 2nd hand one - would be willing to both give it freely and drop it off (even help modify it to fit)
Receiving payment for the delivery is OK as long as it only covers costs, no profit should be made.
If someone has a wedding dress but is not willing to deliver it then that is upto them, usually when something is offered to someone then they will find some way of getting it, a relative, a neighbour etc.
If someone does not like that someone else says that cannot collect then they are fully able to ignore that person and not give to them, its down to choice.
As a moderator, posts are let through to enable the members to make up their own minds if they want to give, to deliver etc to someone, its is not the moderators job to censor all posts just ensure that they keep to the rules and general ethos of the groups.
Thats why these posts are let through.0 -
We've offered some big items and haven't expected that everyone will have the transport to move them and have being willing to deliver them.
It's the people who seem to ask for everything and demand - rather than ask politely - if they can be delivered who don't get offered things by me.0 -

i would laugh... except i can't afford a blackberry - let alone a ski holiday... who ARE these people??!!
I think that you are missing the point of free cycle. It is to keep stuff out of landfill and recycle. Not to support less well off people.
The person needs ski wear- rather than buying it they are asking if anyone has any. Perfectly reasonable. My friends and I swap ski gear for children all the time. This is no different. I have outgrown sets for a 12 year old girl and 10 year old boy at the moment- if a free cycle request came I would gladly give them.
Freecycle is classless and isn't income dependent that is what makes it so great. It also isn't a charity- the stuff doesn't need to go to the poorest or those who can't afford it. It goes to those who have a use for it regardless of their wealth.
The person needs ski gear. They could go and buy it but 1st they have asked if anyone has any. That saves needless manufacturing resources and landfill.June challenge £100 a day £3161.63 plus £350 vouchers plus £108.37 food/shopping saving

pleasedelete, you make some very good points. But each person who offers items is well within their rights not to offer it to someone on whichever grounds they choose. For some of us, we don't wish to give items away to those who clearly have enough means to pay for it themselves. The items can still find a home and not go to landfill, so not considering people whose requests come from blackberries/iphones doesn't harm that ethos. Even if that means keeping it in the shed/loft for a little longer until someone else comes along that they giver is happy to give to.
You would be happy to give that person ski clothes, but that does not mean every one would be
These kids have my sympathy lol, if they do get ski wear it'll likely be in all colours/conditions. When I lived in the states my school offered free ski lessons (although we didn't have any snow so never got them). My Dad took my 9 year old self out and bought me a lovelybright pink ski suit. Then someone gave us a grey/beige one that fit me- so of course that lovely bright pink suit was returned for a refund! And my Dad spending money on his kids and not himself was a rare occurence to rub salt into the wound.0 -
I freecycled 2 very good blackberries. I had no need for them. They would just have sat in a drawer until they were out of date. They were work ones that were not required for return as a contract ended. I would not have used them. Many homes have many old mobile phones in drawers- they were kept I am sure as someone got a new one but thought the old one was too good to throw away etc but never used again and after a few years they will end up at the tip.
If you want to give an item to a worthy cause then donate it to charity. Freecycle isn't about charity- it is about recycling. Just because an item might have a value doesn't mean it shouldn't be recycled through freecycle. The value of an item shouldn't come into it in anyway. It is a community who share what they no longer need. The idea is that people give away what they no longer need or want and request what they do need or want.June challenge £100 a day £3161.63 plus £350 vouchers plus £108.37 food/shopping saving
