electric guitar, professional keyboards ie korg, moog, roland or any electronic equipment like voice distorter echo boxes drum...

It's the MINT CONDITION bit that !!!!es me off, and I have to admit to sending Argos links to people who request only mint condition..

Haha! I just sold my Korg for £400 - bad luck, clearly I should have offered it on Freecycle?! What an idiot! Moogs are collectors items!

FYI there are many schools joining Freegle/Freecycle groups, it could be that one of them is getting a new gym so could have one that they are about to dispose of. It is not just householders using these groups, businesses, shops, other organisations use it too - they can recycle their stuff for free as otherwise it costs them.
LOL - another one I'll just go fetch out the attic.............

  • There are planty of people making a business out of Freecycle, claim the items and eBay them or sell them at bootsales, doesn't matter, still keeping it all out of landfill. If givers want to apply conditions and would rather take it to landfill ... can't see why they object really, we never begrudged the rag'n'bone man making a living in the old days out of our waste goods, even if he did only give us a balloon or a goldfish

For me, this thread does seem to be getting out of hand with some posts.

I doubt many people take issue with the wanteds like, 'I need an iPhone 4S', but I don't think that asking if someone has an item that many people get and then never use after realising what a pain it is to clean (even if it is in a certain colour), is out of order.

Give whatever to whoever you want on whatever terms you want, but please stop looking for complete unreasonableness when it isn't there.

Now, back to the 'needs 61 plate car' posts please and if anyone wants my soapbox, post a wanted. :)

  • Seen on ours this weekend, from the same poster:-

    OFFERED: Rowing machine

    OFFERED: Pair of crutches

I keep thinking the two must be connected somehow......? ;)

Good to see the thread shut down yet again with a "let them grab it" poster. Go start another one about the ethics/rights/wrongs if you're so bothered.

On ours - one poster has requested in the last week: dishwasher (one post) then washer/microwave/flat-telly (another post) and then tumble drier in another post with the comment "I'm having no luck with these electrical appliances"... whether she means no luck in that people aren't handing them over, or no luck in that they've all died (in which case you REALLY need to get your electrics checked luv) is unclear.

The thing is - the utterly greedy grabbing posts, the ones joining from miles outside the area (must deliver) posts because everyone on the neighbouring group's got wise to them, the rude posts, the ebayers and the incessant, utterly ridiculous, provide my entire child's birthday/christmas - are what's killing it. Because in the end who wants to log onto their email inbox full of what varies between begging letters directed at lottery winners, sob stories that put the X factor inserts to shame and requests for the entire Argos catalogue - from the same people time after time after time. Who wants to give something away, to keep it out of landfill - to get emails demanding the item, emails using every bit of emotional leverage it's possible to pull (the best I personally had was the premature babies wanting a PS2), emails demanding you ring mobile number after mobile number - and then to arrange to be in (even if it's an evening and you'd like as not be in anyway - you're specifically making sure you ain't popped to Tescos or wherever) - to just be mucked around by chancers and rude people? People's tolerance only stretches so far - and for lots of people it's being breeched by the mickey takers (although they do prove good for a laugh).

Keeping stuff out of landfill - all well and good - we've got a lot still of the "anyone able to use this before it goes to the skip" people on ours - but the wishlists of ridiculously priced consumer goods, day in-day out (and we often get repeat postings on a daily basis of increasing levels of rudeness) just get people's backs up and yep, they SHOULD be called on it because otherwise everyone who does offer is going to get fed up, leave the list and just take stuff down the local tip, and all that's going to be left (the way my local group is going) are 4-5 people trying to beg the entire Argos catalogue off each other every night.

I have one of them too, offered some stuff the other week and added that if I came across anything else I would include it. I then got a reply asking if I had specific items lurking in the back of my cupboards cos she wanted them

On my local group you can only post one wanted as per month and it is enforced. I think you may even have to have had posts offering stuff first too but not sure on that last point.

I am not disputing there are alot of greedy, grabby posts but perhaps some of the spleen needs to be vented at the Group Moderators.
