Just to give you an idea, I did this the other week for £900 all included, scaffolding, materials, labour (including hacking it off) I never painted it in that price though (thats the client). Approx 6 metres x 3 metres

  • My neighbour recently had their semi coated by Shield Tex and I must say they have done a smashing job. I havent asked how much it cost but I am reluctant to contact them if they have pushy sales people. I already received a quote for £10K from a local Nottingham company but I don't think that my house needs gold plating! The property doesnt even need re-rendering, just a nice waterproof coating and a few minor repairs around windows (where we have had replacements). Any recommendations gratefully received

LoL have you been paid to say that? Shield Tex is Protecta Coat phoenixed.

The last thing your house needs is a nice waterproof coating. You'll stop the building breathing and then you have a whole pile of other problems.

Yes - if you do happen to be Mr Turner or one of his friends go and spam elsewhere please! If you are not then don't be taken in by this expensive garbage that really does nothing for your home.

Disneyland Paris, 52 01 Bristol, Duchy of Corwall land Development Dorchester, Council external refurbs on properties etc etc etc the list goes on. All these developments are completed in the new modern no maintainance external wall systems, they are multi million pound projects passed by designers/architects and councils, yet on here we have so called experts who slam these systems, and i bet they have never even used them.
There are companies out there that will rip you off with the price i agree, but compared to standard sand & cement render which hairline cracks around all beaded areas within 6 weeks of being applied these systems are far superior.

So the houses I rendered 15 years ago with sand and cement that have NO CRACKS at all in them. How do you explain that? Let me answer my own queastion first ITS BECAUSE I KNOW WHAT IM DOING AND DID IT CORRECTLY!!!!!

total pants, go double check all beaded areas, drip, reveal, head will have a crack, i don`t say you ain`t doing it right, i`ve been plastering 32 years. All beaded areas crack no matter how fine the cracks may be, these are known as stress areas.
I worked in germany with these systems before they came to the uk, they out last, out perform and protect a property.
Sand & cement on developments is NO LONGER used, why is that? could it be these systems are proven to be better, or are all these developers wrong?

Yep brand new develeopments that have been designed from the outset for these types of coating. Older style properties are damaged by them.
yet on here we have so called experts who slam these systems, and i bet they have never even used them.
and we also have people who don't know how to compare apples with apples.

    Most of them TBH.
but compared to standard sand & cement render which hairline cracks around all beaded areas within 6 weeks of being applied
10/10 for insulting the likes of plasterer.
........... these systems are far superior.
Not for the older building they are not. People chuck this sort of muck all over them, fit quadruple glazed windows, overheat them, fill em up with all sorts of humidity generating devices and then complain when they get condensation and mould. ever heard of the term compatibility?

    Cheers

Seeing as you like to shout. BECAUSE THESE DEVELOPMENTS ARE DESIGNED FOR THE USE OF THESE COATINGS FROM THE OUTSET.

anyway this thread is really about the dubious marketing and sales practices of these vipers charging amounts that border on theft. Isn't it?

No I'm not Mr Turner or one of his friends and I certainly don't have £10,000s to throw away on expensive coatings either which may not be suitable. I have an old house which needs some TLC and thought I would Google Shield Tex before I picked up the phone (which I won't be doing now until I have done some more research) and this forum was listed. It was an honest post from a 50 something first time lady poster. My house is brick under the render and the render isnt bad except around the top of windows and one corner low down where it has been knocked - so shouldnt be too hard to patch - its just making sure I get the same degree of texture as the rest as its quite knobbly. Then I guess I'll be looking for a painter instead which should save me a few bob instead of putting the old shack in a plastic mac.
