I am interested in this. We have had widely varying estimates, from a couple of grand to around four!!! It's such a big job, especially when you factor in scaffolding etc. (we have a high gable end wall) that its actually quite scarey to think of spending such a lot of money and just hoping you get tradespeople that actually know what they are doing and do a good job.

    babyblooz a few tips

the best is not always the most expensive !

get a complete breakdown of works to be done

DO NOT PAY MONEY UP FRONT

ask for references that you can actually contact and arrange to view the work done if need be

CSCS registered means diddly squat , it only means that he is safety conscious

if he says he can start tomorrow , ask yourself why. ( reputable builders are busy ! )

and last but not least , there are lots of cheaper options other than rendering which are much better and more appealing to the eye , are you sure you want render ?

just a few thoughts to keep you going

is it for entire property or just frontage ( you said original price was for one wall ? )

the average 30's semi is approx 10 metres high (walls , not inc roof )

    ballpark

entire property as described inc pebbledashing £2700 ish inclusive of materials etc

Yes, all 3 need doing, she downgraded to one when the quote was so high, so she could see how it went and have the others done later.

So it would be roughly £2700 plus the scaffolding? Any other costs we haven't thought about?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

We have bubbling pebbledash, and really it needs to come off, and then be rendered again, but smooth this time without the pebbles as the pebbledashing really grabs and holds the dirt. I think the quotes we had were around the three grand mark, but we had one of around four. We just keep putting off having it done cos its such a big amount of money. We have had a quote from one that our neighbour used but the neighbour wasnt impressed, not with the quality of the work, but they assumed a bit of the outside belonged to next door and didnt render that bit, and then they didnt come back to clean away all the pebbles around the house. They are an elderley couple so this was a big job for them. They took a lot longer to finish than they said they would, just kept dissappearing for couple of days at a time, then did a bit, then one of them never came back and a different bloke appeared, that kind of thing.

crystal , question is WHY do you want to render. is it already rendered ? just for cosmetics ? is it stone or brick ? is it not watertight (damp getting through) ?.

what is the reason and why ?

will try to answer with the best option

  • It's a 1930's bungalow, already rendered but peeling, cracking around windows and falling off, tatty looking. Room gets damp in the winter ( am having window replaced and central heating fitted so hope this is sorted soon). I would consider other alternatives! I just presumed i should rerender!
