Doubtful you actually would be allowed to do this - if you are at a polling station you are on duty until 10pm, then would have to be at the count before 10pm for the obligatory training session & to start verifying the ballot boxes as they arrive prior to actually counting the votes.

You can do it - my husband does.

Wrong wrong wrong. I've been poll clerk, then presiding officer for over 10 years (first year off!) and I've always done the count. Often its a 24 hour job but sometimes you get to leave at around 2am.

Just got the call, £38 an hour here I come

    wonderful

tonight at 7.20pm i waited 20 mins to vote

others around the country, my brother in law included, who lives in manchester, he turns out for work at 7.20am, and gets home at 6.30pm chose to turn out at 8.45pm to vote, but was at the back of a long line, and he was told he couldn't vote and hasn't.

There was only 2 ladies on and they couldn't handle the amount of people.

maybe the councils should look at paying people a lot less, and employ more to take and count votes.

I've no doubt those who have been paid £20-£50 an hour for this will be made up.

I agree, hosting the election on a workday means that most people will turn out at 7-10pm. That is just not long enough for the 100's-1000's turning up to each station. Less pay and more people, and do the vote on a Saturday instead.
