    Doubtful you actually would be allowed to do this - if you are at a polling station you are on duty until 10pm, then would have to be at the count before 10pm for the obligatory training session & to start verifying the ballot boxes as they arrive prior to actually counting the votes.

    cheers for the tip, mum and i are both going to be counting tonight :) seems to be one of the lower paid areas tho (12.50 per hour)

    OP here,glad some of you managed to get on this,was really amazed the difference in pay in the regions.Mine for counting is £204 ,and my friend who is doing a polling station for the same council is being paid £285

    I wouldnt of thought they would employ just anyone to do this job surely? I would think theyd be picky incase there was fixing, errors etc

    My husband and I have been sending out postal votes, opening postal votes and then counting them for 3 years now. I first found out about it on here funnily enough. You simply apply to your local council and they send out a form to fill in and you then wait to be accepted. You have to agree to the official secrets act, but once you have done a year and they are happy with you (speed, punctuality etc) they automatically invite you every year.
