Don't forget it isn't just the count, too late now, but you can also apply to be presiding officer or poll clerk at a polling station. Hubby left half an hour ago for his polling station. You can then go straight on to do the count afterwards & get paid for both (very. very long day though!).
Doubtful you actually would be allowed to do this - if you are at a polling station you are on duty until 10pm, then would have to be at the count before 10pm for the obligatory training session & to start verifying the ballot boxes as they arrive prior to actually counting the votes.0 -

OP here,glad some of you managed to get on this,was really amazed the difference in pay in the regions.Mine for counting is £204 ,and my friend who is doing a polling station for the same council is being paid £2850

I wouldnt of thought they would employ just anyone to do this job surely? My husband and I have been sending out postal votes, opening postal votes and then counting them for 3 years now. I first found out about it on here funnily enough. You simply apply to your local council and they send out a form to fill in and you then wait to be accepted. You have to agree to the official secrets act, but once you have done a year and they are happy with you (speed, punctuality etc) they automatically invite you every year.0
