My bill is due 26th May, so before they introduce changes on 1st June.

Still plenty of time for me to get from 160MB data in a week to 500MB by 26th May - esp since I will be out and about at work without WiFi

Was wondering about this too. Will they look at my May's usage to check whether it will be a 10% increase or April's usage.

The issue here is Vodafones interpretation of things. The current situation (of my contract at least) is that i have unlimited Data. This is all that is said on the website i got my Desire from (mobiles.co.uk). Now i always realised there was a fair use policy on that. When the first bill turns up it states a 500MB fair use policy, it states they MAY charge for excessive usage, but will warn of over use. They have already set that precedent by not charging users for going over.

Now they have introduced a hard 500MB cap, with a charge for going over of another £5. This is not unlimited with a fair use policy, its a hard cap. Vodafone may disagree, but that is beside the point whether they disagree or not, it IS NOT unlimited with a fair use policy. It is a major change to the terms and conditions, they have removed unlimited usage, it really is that simple.

I for one will go over the 500MB cap, when they charge me i will take legal action to get a refund and my contract terminated without penalty.

They are going to sending a text or some warning when you reach the 500MB usage, so legal action won't work.

I can see other networks following the same strategy, the current allowance over 500MB is what the network gives at their own discretion. I would imagine they are still going to allow people to go to say 550MB ~ 600MB but send out a warning at 500MB.

Going forward, you will probably see the 500MB limit being lifted to 1Gig as a standard but not all that quickly.

It will work since previously i would not be charged as is the established precedent.

Yeah, thought it would be a bit controversial. Month is not the same as Bill.

Exactly, I never know when the cut-off date is... I know what the billing date for the line rental is, but for calls, text and data I seem to have a slightly different one every month...

Edit: I've been through my bills... cut off dates for usage charges have been: 3rd December, 1st January, 1st February, 2nd March, 3rd April and 30th April

I've emailed The Times, thought they might want to pick up the story for their consumer affairs section. I reckon the more bad publicity VF gets over this, the more they're likely to backtrack.

No ain't got time to read it all. I have read several articles about this on the net.

Quote from vodafone forum (by vodafone customer services) "Our Pay Monthly Terms and Conditions already state that we reserve the right to charge for any usage beyond the Fair Usage limit:"

    http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/topic/57718-mobile-internet-will-the-500mb-allowance-be-enough-for-internet-usage/page__st__160__p__387335&#entry387335?

There really is not much anyone can do other than move to another network when your contract ends.
