  • I am Really !!!!ed Off With Vodafone I Have Just Arrived Back From Egypt Last Week And My Phone Bill Is 467 GBP for one month for internet usage i have google G1 mobile Phone which uses background data usage i turned off roaming and turned phone onto airplane mode to disable all wireless yet i have this excessive phone bill
Charges in rest of the world are:
    • New charges. £3 per MB for the first 5MBs, then £15 per 5MB blocks (£15 charge even if you use 1MB)
    • Current charges. £14.99 for 25MB per day (based on the UK clock)
If you use 25MB in the rest of the world, you currently pay £14.99. Under the new charges, you'll pay £75. But if you use 1MB abroad in the rest of the world, you pay £14.99. Under the new charges you'll pay £3.
Customers using their phone for internet use abroad will receive a text alert when they're about to reach their allowance. i was never sent any text message about my allowance nor did they bar my phone can someone help me please thanks :D

Just got a call from vodafone. They gave me my PAC code, after asking me why I wanted to leave. I asked the chap, if I would be charged for leaving early. He said that I was out of contract, so there was no charge.

    :j :j

Again, thanks to all on here that have helped. Think I will move over to a sim only contract, until the HTC Desire HD comes out.

STAFF telling you one thing versus whats on paper is another - you should request and email confirmation that you will not be charged an early termination fee.
"he said that i was out of contract, so there was no charge". You did ask the question if this was for leaving early, but do you have written confirmation of no early termination fee?! in these dodgy times against vodafone, word of mouth doesnt get us far.

that sounds like a right stitchup. did you get any email or push notifications coming through? because of course this would be a hint that phone is using data.

trying checking out the Vodafone eforum, theres a lot of gear on there about ending. If these roaming charges are a new charge then you maybe able to end your agreement like the Out of Bundle charges which have been introduced.
  • i could be wrong but i think the rules regarding cancelling without penalty only cover changes to domestic charges.
The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits
  • i'm glad to see there are a few folks on here making the breakthrough and escaping their contracts.

I seem to keep getting met with ignorance whenever i try to phone. Have spoken to two managers, one of which was extremely rude, the other has promised to call me back but that was over 36 hours ago!

I have sent of another email earlier this evening so hopefully i'll get some sort of response.

    Same

Dug out my contract and it doesn't even state how much internet I get included and the charges are out of date, apparently I'm on an 'old' tariff despite taking it out a few months ago and if I got the text I am eligible to cancel

Staff have been less use than a chocolate fire guard, I was 'warned' for saying "BS" while describing how they have handled the matter :rotfl:

Insist you didnt use it and ask for proof of the data charges. Unfortunately though if the Egyptian carrier bills Voda for the data use then Voda are going to send that bill to you.

Unfortunately it isnt unheard of for foreign mobile companies to get a whiff of a foreign roaming sim and pile on hundreds in fake data use. As you can see, they literally get paid a packet for it.

I do have an email from them stating
I have taken your number of the commitment period from Vodafone. This means you are out of your 24 month commitment period.
I wont be losing this email :) Once they have taken this months payment for last months bill, I will be cancelling my direct debit and paying the current months bill (which should only be about a weeks worth of line rental) over the phone with the DD card.
  • spoke to someone saturday who put me on hold for 15 mins the said i meet the criteria and would waive the etf :j
pac received today new sime comes tomorrow ill give them pac code and should be free of vodafone by friday
  • I managed to cancel my contract last week and I am porting out tomorrow. took a few emails and phone calls to 191 but managed to cancel by sending confirmation by email. I don't see why it has to be in writing when they can quite happily set the contract up over the internet. You don't have to wait until you are charged either as the T&C say you must request before they charge you. All in, it took just over a week to get my PAC without ETF from my initial request to cancel.
