Well I just got a call back from the rep I spoke to yesterday(not his manager but anyway) and he said they had agreed to waive my early termination fee and he is going to email me to that effect.
Success!
I had received the stalling letter yesterday btw so it shows that you can pursue this successfully without waiting for them to "review your request".0 -
I got an email confirming that they are sending me my PAC but there would be an early termination fee as I wasn't charged for data last month and therefore had no right to cancel without penalty. The email states that to avoid the charge I should use the PAC after 20 November 2011! The next paragraph then says that the PAC will last for 30 days! I understand outsourcing customer service to other countries is cheaper but talk about frustrating for customers!0

Warning text regarding charging over internet allowance text received last night. Letter asking for PAC without termination fee sent off this morning. Luckily, I've only got until December until my contract is up - so November is when I can ask for my PAC anyway. Would be good to get away from them asap.
I know all networks have their shortcomings, but it is the very first time that I've ever experienced such a flagrant disregard for customer interests from a company. Even when you compare it to Orange's fiasco over their plan to raise their call charges which resulted in people asking to cancel - at least they let them cancel (and without having to jump through hoops).
Vodafone's underhand tactics have really put a bitter taste in my mouth and I can't see me renewing with Vodafone or using their services again in the future.0 -
Bye, bye Vodafone. I just signed up this afternoon with T-mobile SIM-only on a 12 month contract for £10 per month, with 600 mins, 500 texts, unlimited landlines and 3gig data with a real FUP and no additional data charges - the 'back to school' offer.
That is value and 3 gig more much accurately reflects what the public believes really is unlimited rather than the paltry 500MB from Vodafone after the disgraceful changes. There is a charge for voicemail but I will simply turn it off - I hate listening to cringeworthy, rambling messages in any case.0 -
This is the email I received(I asked to cancel my 24 month contract and transfer my account to a 30 day rolling contract):
============
Mr ****, following up from our conversation I can confirm that you are now on a 30 day monthly contract therefor you are no longer in a 24 month contract so if you wish to cancel your contract there will not be a termination fee. I hope this helps, Any problems please contact 191 from your handset for 08700700191 from a landline. Regards *** VodaUK
=============
Is this email strong enough confirmation that I will not be charged an early termination fee for ending my 24 month contract?0 -
Seems good enough for me.0

It should be, but you would be amazed at how things like that will be retracted later as a mistake.
If it is in your favour it gets retracted, if it is in their favour, then it's tough. That's my experience0 -
Hello, have been following this and the various other threads since the whole balls up started,just thought I'd let you all know that my vodafone contract has been cancelled without charge after a little bit of a run around.
I did have a HTC Hero on vodafone with unlimited data and was mighty annoyed when I found about about the 500mb fair usage change. Before the change I was using 600-1000mb a month, after, I figured I didn't need WIFI anymore so it was closer to 3GB. I received 3 texts a month about getting close to and then exceeding my 500mb limit, but not being charged. I kept quiet and waited for one saying I would be charged which I received on Aug 18th, telling me I would be charged from Oct 1st. I sent a letter recorded delivery straight away stating my wish to have my contact ended without charge due to the unreasonable price increase I would incur from the change. I phoned customer services a few days later, my letter had been received and after a bit of explaining it was agreed that I would not be charged and I got a PAC code and promptly bought a Galaxy S on T-mobile. The other day a lovely letter came through with a £352.08 cancellation charge on it, little bit worrying. Phoned them yesterday (07836191191 no overpriced 0870 for me) and explained/argued everything and was told some notes would be made but it had to be sent to another department and I would need to call back tomorrow (getting worried). I phoned again today and re-explained things, after being put on hold for a good 6-7 minutes the guy told me that all charges had been dropped and my account closed.
Whoop!
Hope others will be as lucky as it should be the same for all customers, all that is left is to make sure no-one I know ever uses vodafone again, went through a similar thing with orange a little while back and it was dealt with in a much more transparent manner, vodafone really have been/are being very snide about the whole thing.0 -
Guys how long did you's wait for a reply to your letter? Mine was sent 3 weeks ago recorded delivery - which was received fine - and I have still not heard from them!
I emailed customer support yesterday demanding an answer to my letter to cancel without fee given that I have received the text.
But how long did you's wait and what did you's do next?
Many thanks for replies0 -
