Whether Vodafone drop the charge or not, I'm leaving. They have been so completely underhand about all this that I'd never trust them again no matter what they did to try and redeem themselves.

I'm with you on that, I have already changed since last Tuesday. We are the lucky ones who have escaped though, if Voda change their mind on the charging, those customers will not have this luxury we have enjoyed.

Which goes back to my original post which you shot down. I am on your side, I think Voda have acted appallingly but we all have to remember it is too soon to instruct solicitors and file court papers until a change has happened.

I still maintain I think Voda are coming to a realisation this is all going to be costly so they may as well let existing customers do what they have been up to now which could mean a last min u turn on data charging. I do hope one way or another people get what they signed up for or get to cancel failing that.

Glad we are both on the same side. Right now, Vodafone is charging for, or threatening to charge for PACs which is illegal, in breach of contract and detrimental. Vodafone is breaking the law and its contract by doing so. If Vodafone forces me to pay for using a PAC, I will take them to court and win.

Interestingly, if a customer wants to get out of an expensive contract with a long time to run and is likely to be charged the new fees, it would probably be best to use a PAC and then sue for any early termination fee, in case Vodafone changes its mind. This isn't the case for me.

After October, it appears that Vodafone's intention is to charge customers the £5 per 500MB charge, some of whom will have received no notice that 'unlimited' does not mean 'unlimited'. Quite disgraceful.

Well, that's me I guess. I'm 4 months into a 2 year contract and I have about 4 emails, all from different Vodafone CS staff, all confirming that they have cancelled my contract without charging me... So let them change their mind. I'm still gone.

I just hope as many people as possible can cancel, whether they retract all this or not. The way they have treated us is totally ridiculous and the only way they'll learn is if this hits them in the only place it hurts - their profits!
  • It's acknowledged how poorly we have all been treated by Vodafone, but being realistic, if Vodafone do change their position on this which means you are no longer affected by the change this will stop any right of cancellation.

What I am guessing some people are thinking is this is not a good outcome, but we have shocked Vodafone by our volume and our numbers. It appears they are now panicking at the potential amount of lost revenue. If they then change the rules within the next couple of weeks or so meaning everyone on an existing contract is left alone and won't be subject to the changes, you won't have the right to cancel.

On the flip side surely if people end up with what they should have got in the first place (i.e. unlimited internet), surely we have won even if that means people no longer have the right to cancel? People will have got what they signed up to, nothing will have changed in terms of contractual rights or pricing.
  • I think I am among the lucky ones. Sent an email on sunday night via the web form, didnt use a template or anything, saying I wanted to cancel etc, and they said if I get the text this month then I need to write to them with proof of why I need to cancel, and then I will be allowed to cancel. So last night downloaded a few things overnight, got the text and ill be sending my letter off tomorrow.

I don't think you're lucky, most of us are in that situation! The issues appear to be around Vodafone actually doing anything with the cancellation letter....

Not that easy i am afraid, lots of people have done that and Vodafone just say they are considering it. I met all the criteria sent off the letter and basically they are reviewing position in regards to my account. It should be cut and dry but to them it is not.

Don't count your chickens, many are now in this position but are currently being told to wait as Voda have a specialist team involved in making these decisions even for those who fulfil the criterea laid down by Voda. The lucky ones are the ones who recieved PACs and have left. You're currently one of a long line in limbo from the point of sending your cancellation letter in.

Check out the Voda thread on this and you will see lots of others in your position.
  • seeing as I was such a valued customer, they would make an exception for me and upgrade me to 1GB a month at no extra cost. He was rather put out when I pointed out to him that Vodafone have been offering this freely to almost anyone on a similar plan to me...

Believe it or not, I can beat that.

I spent 40minutes talking to customer service yesterday and was getting nowhere on this issue of cancelling without an early termination fee. I asked to speak to a manager and after 10mins on hold he came back to me and said he had spoken to his manager and his manager had agreed to allow me to upgrade from 500mb a month to 1gb a month for an extra £5 a month!!!!

Exasperated, I told him that vodafone had already offered such an upgrade for free on their forums and he said that "I dont know where you read that but thats wrong". I again said it was on vodafones website forums and he didnt have a response.

Anyway im waiting for a callback from his manager which I was told would be by 2pm at the latest. I'm not holding my breath.
