HTC Desire Vodafone 500mb Fair Usage Policy

You only get a warning if you exceed 750Mb and this has been confirmed by Vodafone on their forums. Their forum mods have clarified the new text informing of a £5 charge is reason enough to cancel. I did not think Voda would issue me a notice of a charge and give me a firm reason to cancel but they did and I have a lot longer than you left on my contract.0

New Message today guys reading this
From Vodafone: To let you know you're nearly at the end of your monthly allowance of 500MB. If you need to use additional data there will be a charge of £5 incVAT per 500MB, however we won't start charging until 1 October 2010."
What you guys make of this then?0 -
If the charge increases your bill by at least 10 percent (ie if your bill is always less than £50) this is your green light to send in a cancellation letter.0

Got my text warning me I will be charged as of october. Do we have to wait until they actually charge before we send off our letter and is there a template letter anywhere?
Will only save 2 months rental but its the principle.Wins:

I have submitted my cancellation letter by email to the Director's office, to Web Relations and the CEO's office; additionally I am following it up by sending a copy by recorded delivery post so I have evidence as knowing Vodafone I think we all know this whole unlimited internet has left many loose threads all over the place.
Pity really as I was enjoying my unlimited internet, now I will have to find a replacement deal.
What email addresses did you use? Letter ready to post but thought i'd email aswell.Wins:

We have a problem folks, I have been told I cannot cancel by Sarah Green in the Director's office despite getting the cancellation message.
See this:

(Paste of this here as I reckon the link will disappear when Voda remove it)
Right we have a problem here.
I signed up for Vodafone unlimited internet in December 2009. As soon as these charges came into play I wrote to complain and this went into your web relations team. I had no joy so I wrote to the Director's office. I was patronised and argued with, then told I cannot cancel.
I exceeded my data limit and received the message:
'You have exceeded your monthly 500MB data allowance. You may find a priceplan with a higher data allowance more suitable. Please call customer services for more information. To stop these messages Text STOP to 40506. You have not been charged.'
These were sent Jun 19@13.42 UK, Jul 12 @08:13 UK, AUG 09 @08:11 UK
Then I received:
'From Vodafone: To let you know you're nearly at the end of your monthly data allowance of 500MB. If you need to use additional data there will be a charge of £5 incVAT per 500MB, however we won't start charging until 1 October 2010. To stop these alerts, text STOP to 40506 Sent AUG 17 @08:23 UK'
According to your update at http://forum.vodafon...ernet-charging/ you state people can cancel if this charge increases their usage by more than 10%. MartinB_Vodafone also says in this thread the text I received on 17 August at 08:23 is my go-ahead to cancel.
I wrote in to cancel. Today I have had a response from Sarah Green in the Director's office stating no I cannot, I have to pay all the line rental until the end of my contract and says I am not eligible to cancel. Instead she offers to put me on a new price plan.
I do not want to take this offer, so why on earth are you telling us all one thing on this forum then when it gets to your Director's office they are fobbing me off?0 -
WOAH my thread has already been deleted, less than 10 mins of being on Vodafone's forum!
This all stinks, we are being had over a barrel here, Voda are saying to customers they let you cancel if they introduce a charge which increases a bill by 10% or more, then they say the message telling you a £5 figure in it is the go-ahead to cancel, then they stop you doing it.
I am being stitched up like a kipper, I will send the Director's office a link to this thread instead, Vodafone might be able to censor us on their forums but at least here we can share what is really going on. Roll on Stalingrad at Vodafone's forums!0 -

You're absolutely right. Sarah in the Director's office is now aware of all this information and has decided to leave it over the weekend and get back to me by close of business Monday.
Voda have previously said to me I cannot cancel as they haven't changed their T&C's, besides, they don't know if I will exceed the new data cap. I will, I have received warnings in June, July and this month. They are comparing current data with the previous month to see if customers are likely to be charged when the £5 charge comes in and to say a customer can cancel if this charge is proven to increase their bill by more than 10%. They have historical data now proving my data use over the past three months and showing I am constantly over the 500Mb cap. They can see that based on previous months usage, I will be subject to the £5 fee come October 1 and on my £30 monthly bill this will be an increase of 16%, well over the 10% stated percentage increase.
Their mods say if you have received the text about the £5 charge, which I did three days ago, that is the green light to cancel. They have gone on the record about this. I write about it on their forum, my post gets deleted. What a shocker.
Then Sarah decides this is a good point to leave it at. I have written a reply stating this is not on and I am furious, she is ignoring what is being said on their forums then she has left it all in limbo for the entire weekend.
So now folks it looks like Vodafone are yet again going back on their word. I'll post Sarah a link to this thread so she knows what is going on, but I am sure their office are monitoring this anyway. My employee support package gives me access to a legal helpline and good solicitor's rates so I think it is time I employed them, then let's make it a bit higher profile and get some of the mainstream media involved, so far we have only had this story covered by quite specialist channels like here and Bitter Wallet, we need a good national to get involved (this is when having contacts in a company press office helps).0
